In Beast, Idris Elba faces off against a whole new on-screen adversary: a big, fierce lion who has become extremely territorial and will stop at nothing to assert his dominance. Idris Elba has already fought supervillains in The Suicide Squad and Thor when he portrayed Bloodsport and the Norse god Heimdall, but now he plays Dr. Nate Samuels, a wildlife researcher on a family vacation.
His vacation to South Africa is vital to him, and it also affords him the opportunity to reconnect with an old buddy. However, their quiet safari is quickly interrupted by a dominant male lion.
When will Beast release?
According to Collider Beast is scheduled to release exclusively in theatres on Friday, August 19, 2022, near the close of the Summer season. This means that August will be a busy month for Idris Elba, as his next film, Three Thousand Years of Longing, will be released a week and a half later on Wednesday, August 31. The film premiered to positive reviews at Cannes.
Beast will only be available for viewing in theatres upon its initial release, but given the trend of post-pandemic feature films, a streaming release is anticipated in the near future. Due to the fact that it is a Universal production, the Peacock, which is owned by NBC Universal, would presumably be its most likely streaming home. If not, it will likely be available for home rental approximately one and a half months following the film's first release.
What Is the Storyline in Beast?
The Samuels family feels lost in their current existence after the demise of their matriarch. Dr. Nate Samuels is now divorced, and his two children, Meredith and Norah, are without a mother. Needless to say, there has been a visible divide between them ever since.
In an effort to reconnect with his family, Nate decides to take the girls on a safari through the African savannah as a vacation. With the assistance of their African Wilderness expert, tour guide, and friend Martin Battles, the family goes on a once-in-a-lifetime journey. They were technically correct since they would soon find themselves in a unique predicament but in the worst way possible.
Their nature sightseeing excursion is cut short when they discover a critically injured man on the road in a state of shock repeating the word “devil.” When Nate and Martin search the nearby town for evidence of this “demon,” they discover a horrifying number of dead bodies littering the location. The bite scars and traces suggest that this was a lion assault, but the fact that the remains were not consumed suggests that whatever killed them did so for amusement. The merciless king of the jungle will soon have the Samuels family in his sights, and he will likely not rest until his new target suffers the same fate as the people he massacred.
The narrative resembles that of The Ghost and the Darkness, a 1996 thriller based on a genuine tale in which lions hunted humans for fun rather than sustenance. Beast appears to be moving in a more action-horror-centric direction, but if the concept of Beast appeals to you, consider watching The Ghost and the Darkness on Starz's streaming service.
Who are the Cast Members of Beast?
Idris Elba has had too many legendary roles in recent years to name, including Heimdall from the Thor trilogy, Shere Khan from Disney's The Jungle Book adaptation, and Knuckles from Sonic the Hedgehog 2. As terrific as he was in each of those roles, it's great to have him return in the starring role as Beast's protagonist.
Joining Elba is South African actor Sharlto Copely, who has been in practically every film by Neill Blomkamp, including District 9, Elysium, and Chappie. In addition to playing the conflicted protagonist in District 9 and the nasty psychotic mercenary in Elysium, he has gained a reputation for having a wide range in his fast-paced acting style.
Copely will portray Martin Battles, a colleague of Nate's who, hopefully, will be as wonderful as his name. Iyana Halley (This Is Us) and Leah Jefferies (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) round out the primary cast as Meredith and Norah Samuels, respectively.
The audience does not have to wait long. The release date for Beast is August 19, 2022. The film is currently scheduled to release only in theatres. However, it seems likely that Beast will be made available on a streaming service following its theatrical run.
