The Name “Eternals” is Ironic Now That Kevin Feige Has Revealed the End of the Franchise

Fans who want Marvel Studios to announce Eternals 2 at San Diego Comic-Con this year might not want to hold their breath too long. Eternals was one of the first movies in Marvel Studios’ Phase 4 list. It was meant to be a very different movie for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Chloé Zhao was hired to direct it with the goal of making it an Oscar contender.

Even though the movie did well at the box office for a COVID-19 movie, both audiences and critics had very different opinions.

Fans of Eternals hoped that Marvel Studios would still make a sequel even though the movie came out three years ago. This was especially true since the ending left a lot of loose ends and there are two scenes after the credits that beg for more.

Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, told Inverse that there are no plans for Eternals 2 right now. That doesn’t mean there won’t be one one day, but right now the studio has other things to do. As Feige says below, plot points from Eternals will, however, appear in other Marvel Studios movies, such as the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World.

“There are no plans for Eternals 2 right now.” Some of those events are acknowledged, and I think you may have seen that in a clip we just put out. Big things came out of the water.

How Are They Going to Come Back?

Eternals Comeback

Captain America: Brave New World will finally explain what’s going on with the huge Celestial head that stuck out of the water at the end of Eternals. Since the movie Eternals came out in November 2021, this plot point has been on fans’ lists of unsolved MCU questions.

Another important part of Eternals’ story was what happened to Kit Harrington’s character, Dane Whitman. In the scene after the credits, it was hinted that he would become Black Knight and work with Blade.

There were rumors that Black Knight would be in Blade, but that part of the story has since been taken out of the script because of problems behind the scenes with that movie.

When it comes to the Eternals, these figures may be put on hold for a while. Kevin Feige just recently said that not all Phase 4 MCU characters will be in Avengers 5. This means that the Eternals probably won’t be in the movie for now.

They can still come back, though. Marvel Studios often brings figures back after a long time. It looked like The Incredible Hulk would be forgotten in the MCU’s bigger story, but now we know that characters like The Leader and Betty Ross will be appearing in the MCU soon.

It’s also possible that characters from Eternals will be used as supporting characters in other MCU movies, like how the Hulk has been a major MCU character even though he has only had one movie all by himself.

The Hulk might be the best comparison because Captain America: Brave New World is full of characters that are related to the not-so-happy green giant.

This means that parts of Eternals could be used in another cosmic hero project, like Thor 5, a new Guardians of the Galaxy movie, or the upcoming Nova series. Fans might also get to see Harry Styles again after his wasted appearance as Starfox in one of the scenes after the credits.
