A Member of the Original Film’s Cast Appears in Twisters

Twisters is a stand-alone sequel that doesn’t include any returning Twister characters, although it does have an actor from the first movie making a comeback. Twisters, which premiered almost thirty years after the acclaimed catastrophe film directed by Jan de Bont in 1996, centers on the next wave of storm chasers.
The new protagonists in Twisters, led by Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell, are all attempting to use their knowledge to compile original studies on tornadoes. Although Tyler (Powell) uses his charisma and notoriety as a “Tornado Wrangler” to essentially help folks afflicted by strong storms, Kate (Edgar-Jones) adopts a more conventional scientific approach.
It should come as no surprise at the end of Twisters that Kate and Tyler decide to try Kate’s tornado-taming project, which destroyed a large portion of her team years before. There are a lot of similarities between Jo Harding’s previous team and Tyler’s.
In actuality, Tyler and Kate have both been through traumatic tornado-related experiences, which has inspired them to learn more about the meteorological phenomenon. Jo from the first film may be regarded to be in the similar situation.
Helen Hunt doesn’t make a cameo in Twisters, although her character is mentioned in the new film.
The Reason Behind The Only Original Movie Actor Returning To Twisters
Despite playing two distinct parts, April Warren has emerged as the only person to appear in both Twister and Twisters. Warren made her cinematic debut as “Flashback Mom” during the Wakita scene of the first Twister film, as the team was searching for Aunt Meg.
Despite looking like Jo’s family, Warren was given no credit for the part that was intended to serve as a reminder of her tragic history. Thirty-eight years later, Warren made a surprise return to the Twisters franchise as an uncredited extra in the rodeo sequence, when she sat in the stands close to Powell’s character just before the tornado hit.
It’s Even Better That Twisters’ Returning Actor Cameo Is a Coincidence
You might think the woman who played “Flashback Mom” had ties to the sequel that brought her back after finding out she had previously been in Twisters. But it isn’t at all the case. April Warren (via KFOR News) claims that after learning that the new Twister movie was being filmed, the Oklahoma native went looking for a role as an extra.
Better yet, the woman told Powell about her Twister encounter while they were getting ready for the rodeo sequence in Twisters. Powell quickly notified director Lee Isaac Chung about the discovery so that Warren could meet with him.
Warren also starred in Minari, Chung’s previous Midwest film. Undoubtedly, the pinnacle of her career to date has been performing in Twisters following her unforgettable Twister experience—especially since everything came together by happenstance.
Warren observed that instead of pretending to be a character standing in the aftermath, she was allowed to run among the mayhem as a rodeo visitor this time. Even if she’s not sure how much of her role is in Twisters, being the only person to feature in both films is still a fantastic accomplishment.
