From July to October of 2008, Swift was in a relationship with Joe Jonas. Swift said that Jonas, the subject of her songs “Last Kiss,” “Forever & Always,” and “Holy Ground,” broke up with her in a 27-second phone call during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2008.
Swift later termed the incident “rebellious” and said she was sorry for publicly criticising her ex-boyfriend on Ellen in 2019. Swift stated, “Probably when I put Joe Jonas on blast on your show. That was too much. I was 18,” when questioned by DeGeneres about her most “rebellious” act. We can joke about it now, but at the time that was pretty rude.

After Lucas Till played Taylor’s next-door neighbour in the music video for “You Belong With Me,” the two dated briefly in 2009. Lucas later said that he and his ex-girlfriend had tried dating, but ultimately decided they were better off as friends.
“We dated for a little bit. But, there was no friction because we were too nice,” he told MTV. “We just really both liked each other… [but] most relationships work out cause you get along and then you don’t, and then you make up and it’s passionate, and with us, I really just liked her as a friend. The pair, now commonly referred to as “Taylor Squared,” first worked together on the set of “Valentine’s Day” as high school sweethearts.
According to gossip, the reason Lautner and Swift broke up was because he was more interested in her than she was in him. Swift apparently sought to apologise to the “Twilight” actor in a song called “Back to December” about their relationship.

After working together on “Half of My Heart,” the two went on a short-lived romance lasting only a few months. Swift, at the time 20 years old, later called out the then 32-year-old “Gravity” singer in a song named “Dear John.”
John Mayer told Rolling Stone in 2012. It made me feel terrible because I didn’t deserve it, “I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.” Mayer released a musical response, “Paper Dolls,” on his Paradise Valley album in 2013. “Don’t you think I was too young to be messed with? The girl in the dress, cried the whole way home, I should’ve known,” he sings.

Swift dated Gyllenhaal for three months from October 2010 to January 2011. He is widely credited as the inspiration for her breakup album Red (2012). Swift discussed the inspiration behind Red album track “The Last Time” during a 2012 interview with NPR. “[It’s about an] experience I had with someone who was kind of this unreliable guy.
