Ruth and Boaz (formerly known as R&B), the timeless love story from the Bible, is being reimagined for a contemporary audience on Netflix, with Tyler Perry producing this romantic film. Filming has already concluded, and the movie is set to premiere in September 2025. Here’s everything you need to know.
Ruth and Boaz is an upcoming Netflix Original romance produced by Tyler Perry and his Tyler Perry Studios. The film is directed by Alanna Brown, known for Netflix’s Trees of Peace, which she also wrote. The screenplay is by Michael Elliot and Cory Tynan. Producers include DeVon Franklin, Angi Bones, Tony Strickland, Chad Tennies, and Tyler Perry, with DeVon Franklin serving as executive producer. The score is composed by Kurt Farquhar, and Michael Negrin is the cinematographer.
This movie is part of a new creative collaboration announced in May 2024, where Franklin and Perry will develop faith-based films under a multi-year, multi-picture agreement. Perry also has a broader deal with Netflix, having worked on several Originals and currently developing projects such as the series Beauty in Black and the historical war film The Six Triple Eight.
On July 4th, during the Essence Festival, Netflix revealed that Ruth & Boaz will debut worldwide on Netflix on September 26, 2025.

“This faith-based film is a contemporary retelling of Ruth and Boaz, one of the most iconic love stories in the Bible. After choosing to walk away from a potential record deal, which leads to a tragic act of revenge, Ruth feels compelled to join her late boyfriend’s mother, Naomi, as they both relocate from Atlanta to a small town in Tennessee to start anew. The only employment Ruth can find is laboring at a local vineyard, where she meets the owner, Bo ‘Boaz’ Astra, who instantly falls for her. Ruth clings to her faith and gradually opens her heart to love, but her past soon threatens to catch up with her.”
The film runs for 1 hour and 31 minutes.
