Since then, this amazing young woman has received the Order of Australia Medal and been inducted into the Australian Sailing Hall of Fame.

It seems appropriate that Jessica be played by an Australian actress. Teagan Croft, an 18-year-old Australian, made her acting debut in the 2016 Australian science fiction thriller The Osiris Child before obtaining a recurring role on the popular serial series Home and Away, which also included early roles for A-list actors such as Margot Robbie and Chris Hemsworth. Croft’s most notable performance to date has been as comic book heroine Rachel Roth/Raven in Titans on HBO Max.
Anna Paquin plays Julie Watson
Anna Paquin, the winner of an Academy Award, portrays Jessica’s mother, Julie Watson. The New Zealand actress began her career at a very young age, winning her first Academy Award at age 11 for her performance in the 1993 romantic drama film The Piano.

Throughout her teens, Paquin appeared in films such as Fly Away Home, Almost Famous, and Jane Eyre. Currently, audiences recognize her best as the mutant superhero Rogue in Fox’s X-Men franchise and the main lady of True Blood, Sookie Stackhouse. Recently, she starred in A Friend of the Family, a film based on the abduction of Jan Broberg.
Josh Lawson as Roger Watson
Roger Watson, portrayed by fellow Australian actor Josh Lawson, is the on-screen husband of Anna Paquin and the father of Jessica. This outstanding actor and writer began his career in the late 1990s with a recurrent part on the Australian children’s television program The Wayne Manifesto.
Since then, he has worked consistently and is most recognized for his roles as Tate in the NBC sitcom Superstore and Kano in Mortal Kombat. He appeared in a recent episode of the Netflix series Cobra Kai. Ben Lawson, a fellow actor and the star of Firefly Lane, is his brother.

Cliff Curtis plays Ben Bryant
Ben Bryant is Jessica’s mentor and sailing coach, however, unlike the other main characters in True Spirit, he is a composite fictional character based on various real people in Jessica’s life.

Cliff Curtis, an actor from New Zealand, brings Ben to life in the film. Curtis and his co-star from True Spirit, Anna Paquin, also co-starred in the 1993 film The Piano. In addition, he has appeared in films such as Collateral Damage, The Dark Horse, Doctor Sleep, and most recently Avatar: The Way of Water.
