Luke Albert Combs is an American country music performer and composer. With his music, Combs has been nominated for two Grammy Awards, two iHeart Radio Music Awards, four Academy of Country Music Awards, and six Country Music Association Awards, including the association’s top honor, Entertainer of the Year in 2021.

Who is Luke Combs?

The only child of Rhonda and Chester Combs, Combs was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the family later relocated to Asheville, North Carolina, when he was eight years old. He has been singing professionally since he was a young boy.

Combs played football and sang in several vocal ensembles when a student at A. C. Reynolds High School, including a solo at Carnegie Hall. He later enrolled at Appalachian State University, where he first gained stage experience in the same club while working as a bouncer.

At the Parthenon Cafe in Boone, Johnny gave his debut performance of country music. He dropped out of his senior year with less than a month remaining in order to focus on his country music career. Later, he relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a musical career.

The Way She Rides, Combs’ debut EP, was released in February 2014. He released his second EP, Can I Get an Outlaw, later that year. In 2016, Combs’ debut single, “Hurricane,” debuted at number 46 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs list after selling 15,000 copies in its first week.

Combs released This One’s for You, his third EP, in November 2015. Combs was selected as one of Sounds Like Nashville’s “Artists to Watch” in the latter part of 2016.

The lead song from This One’s for You, “Hurricane,” was re-released on Columbia Nashville when Combs inked a deal with Sony Music Nashville. On May 15, 2017, “Hurricane” climbed to the top of the country radio airplay chart and remained there for two weeks.

Who is Luke Combs?

Combs’ major label debut album, This One’s for You, was released in June 2017 through Columbia Nashville and River House Artists. In its first week, the album debuted at number one on Billboard’s Top Country Albums and number five on the US Billboard 200.

On June 19, 2017, country radio received the release of “When It Rains It Pours,” the second song from the album. In October 2017, it peaked at the top of the Country Airplay chart. On January 8, 2018, the third song from the album, “One Number Away,” was made available to country radio.

This One’s for You Too, a deluxe edition that Combs released in June 2018, included five bonus tracks, two of which—“She Got the Best of Me” and “Beautiful Crazy”—were released as singles and both peaked at number one. With his first five singles, Combs has five number-one singles on the Billboard country list when “Beautiful Crazy” peaked at the top of the Country Airplay chart in February 2019.

The song debuted at the top of the Hot Country Songs, Country Streaming Songs, and Country Digital Song Sales charts, respectively. Combs received an invitation to join the Grand Ole Opry on June 11, 2019.

This One’s for You made a record for the longest male artist reign at the top of the Top Country Albums chart in August 2019 as it spent its 44th week there.

On November 8, 2019, his second album, What You See Is What You Get, was made available. The singles “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” “Even Though I’m Leaving,” “Does to Me,” a duet with Eric Church, and “Lovin’ on You,” all of which debuted at the top of the US Country chart, are taken from the album.

Combs released the track “Six Feet Apart” in May 2020. The song soon gained popularity among listeners as it described the difficulties associated with surviving the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Lovin’ on You,” which was featured on both Combs‘ second album and the EP The Prequel, which came before the album, was announced as his upcoming single by the artist in June 2020.

What You See Ain’t Always What You Get, a deluxe edition of What You See Is What You Get with five new tracks, was announced by Combs and released on October 23, 2020. On Apple Music and Spotify, the song “Forever After All” broke all previous records for country music streaming.

Personal Life

Nicole Hocking and Combs began dating in the early months of 2016, and they got engaged in November 2018. They got hitched on August 1st, 2020 in Florida. Combs and Hocking said they were expecting a son, their first child as a couple, in the spring of 2022 on January 20, 2022. A son was delivered to them on June 19, 2022.

Medical Problems

Throughout his youth and undergraduate years, Combs struggled with anxiety and, in particular, obsessional obsessive compulsive disorder; he has acknowledged that, despite improvements in his ability to manage it, he occasionally still experiences these thoughts.
