Which Books Is Shadow and Bone Season 2 Based on?

Shadow and Bone season 2 really can’t come fast enough! The highly-anticipated next episode of the popular Netflix fantasy series will come out on March 16, 2023. We cannot wait!

We can expect to see the all-powerful Sun Summoner Alina, played by Jessie Mei Li, and her best friend and (hopefully) love interest Mal, played by Archie Renaux. The Darkling Kirigan, who is played by Ben Barnes, will be back for more adventures, as will everyone’s favourite epic heist team, the Crows, and others. That also includes a few new characters!

If you didn’t know, the show is based on a trilogy of books by the same name by Leigh Bardugo. These books are Shadow and Bone, Siege and Storm, and Ruin and Rising. There’s also a pair of books set in the same universe called Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom.

The first season was based on the first Shadow and Bone book, but it also had plots and elements from Six of Crows. And the two stories went so well together! So what’s the plan for the show’s second season?

What Will Season 2 of Shadow and Bone Be About?

General Aleksander Kirigan, also known as The Darkling, is back and has made an army of shadow monsters that can’t be killed. Alina Starkov, who is the Sun Summoner, is the only one who can beat this evil leader and his army, which seems impossible to stop. She needs to get stronger before she can take on this dangerous enemy. To defeat Kirigan, Alina must find and fuse with two new amplifiers, which are special mythical beasts.

Shadow and Bone’s second season is all about Alina’s search for these amplifiers, which she does with the help of her childhood friend Mal Oretsev (Archie Renaux) and a new group of swashbuckling pirates. After a dangerous heist in Ketterdam, Kaz Brekker (Freddy Carter), Inej Ghafa (Amita Suman), and Jesper Fahey (Kit Young) are thrown into Alina’s path.

Which Grishaverse Books is Shadow and Bone Season 2 Based on?

Entertainment Weekly says that both the second and third books in the trilogy will be used in the second season of Shadow and Bone. That means you should read Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising before the start of the next season. In the second season, parts from Six of Crows will also be used to tell the Crow’s story.

This is true because the actor Jack Wolfe, who plays the new character Wylan Hendriks, has already said that he will be in season 2. Showrunners Eric Heisserer and Daegan Fryklind told EW that the main plot from the Six of Crows novel will not be used in season 2 because that story needs its own time and the show has “bigger ambitions” for it.
