A greedy land hunter kills Sherman’s father Matt at the start of the story. At their farm the last rites for his parents were said. In the end it turns out that Matt was wrongly accused of helping the Union win the American Civil War.

When Jess Harper finds the broken-down Union Army bed cart near the Sherman Ranch he goes after the officer who is played by Frank Overton. And who is the real bad guy behind a Major? All of this is done to make Matt Sherman look good. The gold dust had already blown away though.
