Where is Anthony Strangis Now? Is He Still in Jail?

The New Netflix true-crime film Bad Vegan: Fame. Fraud. Just released, Fugitives is already generating considerable attention. The plot traces the rise and fall of Sarma Melngailis, a prominent restaurateur in New York City and proprietor of the celebrity hotspot Pure Food and Wine.

The documentary describes how Sarma fell in love with Anthony Strangis, wed him, and reportedly endured psychological torture and extortion. Sarma and Anthony defrauded her workers and investors of about $2 million before fleeing for a year and being apprehended after they ordered a non-vegan Domino's pizza from a Tennessee hotel.

Who is Anthony Strangis?

Born in 1980, Anthony Strangis will be 43 years old in 2023. He is notorious for being a scam artist, criminal, gambler, and Sarma Melngailis' ex-husband. Unfortunately, nothing is known about Anthony Strangis's past. Strangis was born in Massachusetts and raised in Sarasota, according to several media. Here, he was surrounded by those engaged in illicit activity.

Since Anthony Strangis's actions thrust him into the public eye, few of his family members have given interviews or provided any information about his life. A source revealed that his father, John J. Strangis Sr., worked for the Brockton Police Department for almost 25 years. In 1989, Strangis's father resigned from the police service.

Where is Anthony Strangis now?

Strangis is no longer incarcerated and has been for some time. Although he is free, he is still on probation. In the documentary series, many of the individuals questioned are worried by this fact because they believe Strangis will continue to defraud others.

His probation period will conclude in May 2022. Strangis has been off the grid since his release from prison, so we do not know where he is now, however, he may be with the Tinder Swindler.

Is Strangis still with Melngailis?

The relationship looks to have ended, which is maybe not unexpected. After their separate plea agreements, the disgraced vegan queen sought for an uncontested divorce from Strangis in 2018. As with so much else about these two, the present legal status of their marriage and whether the divorce has been formalized remain unclear.

Also, there is no information on a new partnership for Strangis. But Melngailis has placed him in the rearview mirror, just as she did with her ex-wife. Moreover, she is clearly done with marriage in general. The whole Bonnie and Clyde incident seems to have left an indelible mark.

“I'm not interested in getting married again,” she told the Post. “I am not interested in being in a relationship.” With Strangis or anybody else, apparently particularly if they assist in pushing her into a fraud plan and consume fast-food pizza containing dairy products.

Is Anthony Strangis of Bad Vegan in jail?

Given his actions, you may question whether Strangis has ever been incarcerated. The short answer is yes, he did. In 2016, the duo was apprehended after fleeing the authorities and sheltering in a Tennessee motel.

They were detained at Riker's jail, and soon afterward, Melngailis posted bail, although Strangis never did. He was unable to pay his $350,000 bail and had no one to do it on his behalf. When he was eventually sentenced, he received time served in addition to five years of probation.

When Strangis was ultimately released from prison, Melngailis returned to fulfill her brief term. In 2017, the New York Post reported that Strangis was sentenced to an extra five years of probation for stealing more than $1 million from investors and staff.
