Consumer Product Safety Commission of America
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Clorox is voluntarily recalling approximately 37 million bottles of scented Pine-Sol because the cleaning products may contain germs that can cause serious illnesses in persons with compromised immune systems.
During a “regular product evaluation,” the Pine-Sol research and development team identified germs, according to a Clorox spokesperson. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a bacteria commonly found in soil and water, had been identified in “some recalled products,” she said.
No illnesses or injuries have been linked to the recalled products. Clorox stated in a statement that the recall was issued “out of an excess of caution.” According to experts, Pseudomonas aeruginosa poses no threat to the majority of people. Clorox advised that people who use external medical equipment or have impaired immune systems are at increased risk of infection.

What is Pseudomonas Aeruginosa?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this type of bacterium is typically found in water or soil and can cause infections in the blood or lungs. It can be highly antibiotic-resistant.
Dr. Martin Blaser, the director of the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine at Rutgers University, stated that it can spread readily, including through contact with contaminated hands or surfaces.
According to Dr. Blaser, the majority of people are exposed to it through consumption, such as eating a piece of fruit with the bacterium on its skin or drinking contaminated water. He stated that the danger of infection for the average person was “negligible” with regard to Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
