St. Leo Bolt was born to Wellesley and Jennifer Bolt on August 21, 1986. He was born in Trelawny Parish, Jamaica, in a small town called Sherwood Content. He has a brother named Sadiki and a sister named Sherine. When he was a kid, he and his brother and sister would play cricket and football in the street.

In the small town where they lived, his parents ran a grocery store. Usain went to Waldensia Primary School, where he was the fastest runner by the time he was twelve. When he first went to William Knibb Memorial High School, he focused on other sports. However, the cricket coach saw how fast he ran and told him to try track and field.

During high school, Bolt was coached by Dwayne Jarrett and Pablo McNeil, a former Olympic sprinter. With their help, Bolt started winning medals at championship high school games.
