Stronger together! Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra are devoted to making their relationship work after more than a decade together. From middle school to MTV to battling split rumors, scroll down to revisit the reality stars' relationships:
Catelynn and Tyler began dating in 2005 after meeting in the seventh grade. Catelynn's mother, April, and Tyler's father, Butch, started a relationship shortly after their union and wed in 2009. (They separated in 2013).
“Returns of @tylerbaltierramtv and me. It's very amusing to look back on ourselves!” Catelynn posted accompanying Instagram images of the couple when they first began dating in April 2018. “I was CRAZY about that Hollister coat?? and he remains the love of my life!! Tyler looks so small! I adored my pink eye shadow!!! I honestly miss it lol.”
Being Covered on MTV
In season 1 of 16 and Pregnant, filmed by MTV in 2009, Catelynn and Tyler's journey began to be documented a few months before their first child, Carly, in May 2009. At barely 16 years old, the couple made the painful decision to place Carly for open adoption, choosing Brandon and Teresa as the adoptive parents.
Proposal for the First Time
During a January 2010 episode of Teen Mom season 1, Tyler popped the question for the first time while the couple was still in high school. Catelynn accepted, but their relationship happiness was brief.
In the debut episode of Teen Mom's second season, which aired in July 2010, Tyler discovered that Catelynn had lied to him about meeting up with her ex during a brief gap in their relationship. They were reunited shortly thereafter.
Contact With Carly
Throughout the original run of Teen Mom, viewers witnessed Catelynn and Tyler struggle with their open adoption and anticipate visits with Carly, Brandon, and Teresa. Teen Mom ended in 2012 after four seasons, but returned in 2015 as Teen Mom OG.
In a July 2013 episode of VH1's Couples Therapy, Tyler called off the engagement. “I feel like if we're married, I'll be stuck in this rut forever,” Tyler said at the time to one of the therapists on the show. “The more I consider it, the more it seems like she demotivates me. She lacks the motivation to complete tasks on her own. She's not independent. She would likely never say it, but I sometimes feel like she puts up with me.”
Fans witnessed Tyler's second proposal to Catelynn on an MTV program titled Being Catelynn that aired in February 2014, some months later. He also gave her a new engagement ring for the holiday season. “Babe gave me a beautiful engagement ring…. I did not anticipate this at all… It even has a baby diamond on the bottom to commemorate our new little girl….,” Catelynn said on Instagram in December 2014, while she was expecting. “I adore you so much, thank you very much @tylerbaltierramtv!”
On January 1, 2015, the couple welcomed their second child together, a daughter named Novalee Reign.
In August 2015, the couple tied the knot at Castle Farms in Michigan in front of 154 guests, including Teen Mom OG co-stars Maci Bookout and Amber Portwood and Teen Mom 2 co-stars Kailyn Lowry and Javi Marroquin according to usmagazine. Tyler told Us exclusively at the time that he was crying like a baby while seeing Catelynn walk down the aisle. The couple also wrote their own vows, with Catelynn telling Us that Tyler's were “very personal and dramatic.”
Sadness After Giving Birth
Catelynn struggled from postpartum depression after the birth of Nova in 2015 and sought treatment in Arizona. Her suffering was covered on Teen Mom OG, and in a November 2016 episode of The Doctors, the couple discussed how it affected her relationship. “It affected our communication in our marriage,” Baltierra stated at the time. “For the first time, we did not know how to communicate because we had never been through it before and were unaware of postpartum. It has caused a small amount of strain.”
Through Sickness and Health
Suicidal thoughts prompted Catelynn to seek treatment for her mental health and trauma issues in November 2017. After returning home one month later, she returned to rehab in January 2018 and later disclosed on an episode of Teen Mom OG that she had an abortion.
“Right now, I'm taking the time I need to take care of myself,” Lowell told Us Weekly in an exclusive statement in November 2017. “On November 17, I considered every imaginable method of suicide… From putting a belt around my neck to colliding with an electrical pole in my car… GOD BLESS I have a support system, a HUSBAND, and a DAUGHTER… Thank God I'm aware of myself… I'm seeking treatment and I WILL get better… Those of you who feel alone, you ARE NOT ALONE! This world needs everyone! Everyone is here for a reason… Thank you for your assistance during this difficult time… Much Love, “Catelynn Baltierra
“I adore you so much!!!” A month after completing therapy in March 2018, Catelynn posted a selfie of herself and Tyler with a caption. “And for all of you haters, vows state – in SICKNESS and in health… remember that… because this man has done that for me beyond my wildest dreams @tylerbaltierramtv #KeepTalkingMH#rememberURVows.”
Catelynn and Tyler Baltierra continue to disprove all the Teen Mom doubters and sceptics, despite the fact that they're still in their mid-20s and life continues to provide obstacles. If they remain dedicated to one another, there's no reason to believe they won't be able to overcome any obstacle they face as a pair. Surely, their supporters are rooting for them.
