Outer Banks, a teen adventure show that has been very popular, is back for a third season. This Netflix original series was made by the Pate brothers and Shannon Burke. It’s about a group of teens from both the rich and the poor parts of town who go on a journey to find the buried treasure.
The third season is about the search for El Dorado, the city of gold. It is full of the usual teenage romances and guilty-pleasure action scenes that fans of the show have come to expect and love. 1. Stranger Things
Stranger Things, Netflix’s other popular show about teens, maybe more of a genre show than Outer Banks, which is mostly based “somewhat” in reality. Still, these big hits are about a group of brave teenagers who work together to beat powerful enemies and overcome impossible odds.
Along the way, these teens find love and go through hard times. They also make friends for life. Madelyn Cline, who is best known for her role on Outer Banks, has a small part in season 2 of the Duffer brothers’ show Stranger Things. However, she is almost unrecognisable in that season.
2. Elite
This Spanish hit on Netflix is another show made especially for teens. It’s about two rivals who go to the same high school in Las Encinas. Elite, like Outer Banks, looks at the differences between the rich and the poor. In Outer Banks, these people are called “kooks” and “pogues.” It is said that the hunt for buried treasure brings people of different classes together. Elite is another teen drama with murder, sex, and romance. Still, this original series tries to change the usual tropes of the genre, go against what people expect, and make something new in the process.
3. Riverdale
The plot of Outer Banks can get close to being stupid and unbelievable at times. Riverdale, The CW’s teen-focused adaptation of a comic book, also likes to have trashy side stories. The show is about high school drama and crime in a small town that looks like a postcard. Another show with a teen drama set has mystery elements, though Riverdale sometimes leans more towards the supernatural.
4. The Recruit
In the light-espionage drama The Recruit, played by Noah Centineo, the main character is a new lawyer named Owen Hendricks. He is thrown right into a dangerous criminal world. Like the Outer Banks, teens are in situations that are dangerous and could end in death.
Even though they both seem to handle these problems with sarcasm and a sense of humour. The Recruit was another hit show on Netflix, and there are plans for a second season. It did well because of Centineo’s charm and because the show was a fun mix of comedy and action.
5. Black Sails
This Starz show about history and adventure had four seasons and 38 episodes. It is a prequel to the book Treasure Island, which was written in 1883. It is set in the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy when pirates were looking for treasure. Like Outer Banks, the main draw of this show is looking for treasure, but it looks at the swashbuckling era in a more grown-up and grim way. Black Sails has a score of 8.2 on IMDB, and fans like how the show has gotten better as it has gone on.
6. Animal Kingdom
A TV version of the same-named Australian movie came out on TNT six years after the movie came out in theatres. This crime drama is about 17-year-old Joshua “J” Cody, who moves to Oceanside, California, to live with his crime family. Due to their criminal activities, they live a very nice life, and Joshua soon joins them. The show looks at crime against a sunny background, like Outer Banks, and Ellen Barkin is a big part of it (Poker Face). Both the UK and the US have Prime Video.
7. Virgin River
Virgin River on Netflix is an easy show to watch that has the feel of a daytime soap opera. This romantic drama shows what goes on in a small, remote town in Northern California on a day-to-day basis, focusing mostly on the
family problems of people like nurse practitioner and midwife Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge). Like Outer Banks, there is romance and crime, but this series is less about teens and much more about adults. The shows are easy to watch and have a similar tone.
8. The Wilds
You could say that The Wilds is like Outer Banks for Prime Video because it looks and sounds the same. But this series is about a group of teenagers who are stranded on a desert island after surviving a plane crash. These girls may have been through something dangerous, but they are also taking part in a secret social experiment.
In this Amazon Original, you can expect a unique and real look at the problems teens face, as well as beautiful settings. The first season was praised for being an addicting thriller that showed how complicated teenage girls can be. The second (and final) season wasn’t as well-liked, but it was still interesting.
9. The Society
Have you ever wished you could be free from your parents and all the ties of modern life? Well, Society might be the thing you’ve always wanted. In this one-time miniseries on Netflix, a group of teenagers learn how to run their town after everyone else leaves and the rest of the world seems to disappear. This high-concept teen drama series, which stars Kathryn Newton (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania), is about teens who are strong, like Outer Banks. It feels like a new take on the coming-of-age genre.
10. Ozark
Ozark, a great crime show from streaming giant Netflix, keeps the love fest going. Both Ozark and Outer Banks are about crime and take place in towns near water. Ozark may be darker and more dangerous, but there are still a lot of similarities. Both stories are about teenagers who are out of their depth in the adult world and talk about what happens when you live a life of crime. Everyone wants to be rich and powerful, but they may not be ready for the hard decisions and complicated problems that come with these goals. In both of these Netflix originals, greed might be stronger than morals.
