Thor: Love and Thunder: Thor: Love and Thunder is an upcoming American superhero film directed by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, based on the Marvel Comics character Thor. It will be the direct sequel to Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and the Marvel Cinematic Universe's 29th feature (MCU).
Thor: Love and Thunder Plot
What can we expect from Thor: Ragnarok? It's expected to have an “Avengers 5 feel,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. It's even been dubbed “one of the best scripts he's read in years” by Chris Hemsworth. Accurate? Well, if director Taika Waititi is to be believed, it'll be Ragnarok ramped up to eleven.
“If you take Ragnarok – which I think was a really huge, outrageous, bombastic film – we're trying to double down on everything we accomplished with that and make something even more insane, entertaining, and even more of a big, enormous adventure,” he told Entertainment Tonight.
The filmmaker also stated that the film “may be the best Marvel film ever,” which is a strong statement.
Waititi also spoke with The Sydney Morning Herald on the film, revealing that there may not be a Thor 5: The Dark World sequel. He said, “I think this would be funnier.” “We've just tripled everything we accomplished with Ragnarok.” Who knows whether we'll do another one after this, but I have a strong feeling that we put everything into this film — every idea and every single ludicrous premise, gag, stunt, or character. “I couldn't be more pleased.”
He subsequently teased Wired that the movie is the “craziest” thing he's ever done, saying: “What I wanted to do from the start was to ask: ‘What are people expecting the least from this franchise?'” Oh, yes — a full-fledged love story!”
In addition, Waititi announced in an Instagram Live video that Korg will be yearning for love in Thor 4, as well as the appearance of Space Sharks. That isn't a mistake. During the Thor comic series in 2013, the monsters featured in the comics served as a razor-sharp hurdle for those trying to get close to the wicked Gorr's world.
We also know Jane Foster's Thor will have a role in the film, however no details on how she obtains her own version of Mjolnir or what universe she belongs to have been released.
Another narrative aspect will be Valkyrie's search for a partner to govern New Asgard with. “She's the queen. “She'll just be king and queen at the same time if she can't find her queen,” Thompson stated in an interview with ET.
For the time being, everything else is just guesswork. But, as they say, you have to guess to accumulate, and given how closely Love and Thunder appear to be following narrative themes from Jason Aaron's run on Mighty Thor, it's worth considering what might still happen.
Jane Foster's homecoming undoubtedly signifies a few things, but file them under “hopes” rather than “facts.” One, Thor is no longer deserving of the hammer. Nobody knows how it happens, however, Jane may have taken up Mjolnir on the moon in the comics and may do so again here.
Another theory is that she comes from the Multiverse of Madness, a concept that is explicitly mentioned in the Doctor Strange sequel.
Thor: Love and Thunder Cast
Chris Hemsworth stars alongside Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, and Vin Diesel in the film directed by Taika Waititi, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.
Hemsworth and Waititi had explored plans for a sequel to Ragnarok by January 2018. Hemsworth, Waititi, and Thompson, as well as Portman, who did not appear in Ragnarok, were all attached to return to the franchise when Love and Thunder were formally confirmed in July 2019.
Waititi revealed that the picture would incorporate elements from Jason Aaron's Mighty Thor comic book series, in which Portman's character Jane Foster takes on the mantle and powers of Thor while battling cancer. Waititi later described the film as a romance film once Robinson joined it in February 2020. Filming in Sydney, Australia, began in January 2021 and ended in early June 2021.
