What You Need to Know About The Umbrella Academy Season 3 Release Date, Actors, Plot, and More!

Phew! What an adventure season two of The Umbrella Academy was.

Five made sure his siblings weren’t blitzed to a pulp by the apocalypse in season one by transporting himself and them to the 1960s… right into the path of another apocalypse.

Ben was able to stop her from splitting the planet apart, allowing Vanya to assist Harlan, who was on the verge of annihilation after she bestowed upon him powers that mirrored hers. After The Handler and Lila declared war on The Umbrella Academy, the gang escaped death at the hands of The Handler and Lila (the latter is still out there, unlike her “mother” – more on them later).

However, not everything is as it seems. The siblings returned to Hargreeves HQ only to discover that it had been taken over by The Sparrow Academy. Isn’t it true that there’s never a dull moment?

“[The Umbrella Academy] should be able to relax now,” showrunner Steve Blackman told, “but something isn’t quite right as they’ve returned.”

“Not only are they claiming to be the Sparrow Academy, but [Reginald] Hargreeves is still alive – which he shouldn’t be.”

Expect “lots of Easter eggs,” as well, according to Blackman. “We love hiding Easter eggs for our followers, and this year there are more Easter eggs than ever.”

What we’re trying to imply is that there’s still a lot more to this story. But when will season three premiere? Everything you need to know is right here.

It’s a fact: Season three of The Umbrella Academy is in the works, with ten brand-new episodes on the way.

When it comes to when those episodes will be released, we just got word that the new season will premiere on June 22, 2022, and will answer some of the burning issues that have haunted us since season two’s shocking conclusion in 2020.

Fans were understandably ecstatic at the announcement of its reappearance. “Finally,” one Twitter user said. It feels like I’ve been waiting my entire life. Season three filming concluded a while ago, but given how important special effects are to this show, it’s understandable that the wait has been so long.

The apocalyptic vision seen in season two took “months and months” to design, according to visual effects supervisor Everett Burrell, who added: “A lot of the feature film effects technologies have now filtered down into the TV industry, so we’re able to achieve bigger and more epic-looking stuff… So every season, we have to outdo ourselves by using the most up-to-date and greatest technologies we can get our hands on.”

Justin H Min (Ben) will return for season three, although he won’t be a member of The Umbrella Academy this time, but rather The Sparrow Academy, whatever that is.

And, judging by his hair and his very awful attitude, he’s not Ben anymore.

Vanya (Elliot Page), Five (Aidan Gallagher), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Diego (David Castaneda), Luther (Tom Hopper), and Reginald (Emmy Raver-Lampman) will all be returning, even though they were, against all odds, alive and kicking at the end of season two (Colm Feore).

Will the rest of the Hargreeves youngsters be seeing double now that The Sparrow Academy and emo “Ben” have been introduced?

There’s also Lila (Ritu Arya), a newcomer who can do everything the siblings can, but better. We also expect to see Grace (Jordan Claire Robbins) and Pogo (Adam Godley and Ken Hall) return.

Both Allison’s spouse Raymond (Yusuf Gatewood) and Vanya’s love interest Sissy (Marin Ireland) stayed behind in the 1960s, thus their tales seem to be finished. Harlan, on the other hand, could reappear in the future if he retains his abilities.

There’s also room for some new faces, as Netflix confirmed with a major casting announcement for the Sparrow Academy at the start of 2021. The following characters will now join Justin H Min (complete with character descriptions):

“A chiseled colossus with a lovely demeanor. Marcus maintains the family together by being honest, virtuous, and demanding. He is as brilliant as he is strong, graceful but lethal, calculated but kind. Marcus is self-disciplined, logical, and in command. He exudes confidence and authority without ever raising his voice.”

“Fei has a unique perspective on the world. She appears to be a misanthrope who would prefer to be alone than spend time with you. Fei, on the other hand, wishes she had a friend. Fei is usually the smartest guy in the room, and he is willing to work things out. If you cross Fei, however, there will be no turning back since she will not stop until the work is completed.”

“Years of fighting crime have left him with many visual reminders of his struggles on his face and body. Alphonso compensates by having a caustic and scathing sense of humor. A delicious pizza and a six-pack of beer are the only things he enjoys more than verbally beating anyone who gets in his way.”

“A romantic and a dreamer who senses a higher cosmic calling that compels her to travel the world and live a life beyond her background. Sloane is linked to the Academy by her commitments to her family and her fear of crossing the family line. Sloane, on the other hand, has other ideas… and who knows, maybe one day she’ll be brave enough to act on them.”

“Jayme is a recluse who hides behind a hoodie. She doesn’t have to say much because she isn’t required to. Jayme’s sneer is terrifying. If you catch sight of it, you’ll dash across the street to avoid what’s coming next. She spends most of her time with Alphonso, her only buddy, and is as sharp as a knife.”

“Christopher is an unidentified telekinetic cube. He can make a room ice cold and paralyze people with dread. He is the Sparrows’ go-to oracle, offering excellent counsel and acting as a family mediator. Christopher is a force to be reckoned with since he is trustworthy, loyal, and is treated by the Sparrows like any other sibling.”

Javon Walton, who plays Euphoria’s Ashtray, has also confirmed his participation in the following season.

“Euphoria has led to other significant opportunities for which I am grateful. I’m looking forward to working on some new projects soon. For the third season of Umbrella Academy, I’m in it. “I understand,” he told Complex.

There’s no word on who he’ll play in the show, but we’re curious!

Season three, whose setting has been confirmed as Hotel Oblivion, will be “wilder, bigger, zanier” than ever before, according to Blackman, who also teased: “I think our emotional stories within this dysfunctional family, we’re just building it up even more.” This year, the family is in for a few big surprises.

“There are some incredible developments that people will want to dive into, and there’s a lot of growth for this family this year in ways that no one will expect.”

The Umbrella Academy enjoys catching viewers off guard by using a variety of twists and turns to shock and amaze them. According to Page, the cast is often taken aback by the several significant developments that occur along the road.

“Well, I feel like I was shocked a lot,” he remarked, “because one of the lovely things about the show is that a lot of things are new to us when we read the scripts.” “As a result, I always feel like there are delightful surprises.”

We’re given to believe that The Handler is dead at the end of season two and that the Commission, now free of her iron grasp, will undergo some much-needed reform. But, as we previously stated, we wouldn’t be astonished if she reappeared in another fantastic pair of shoes, this time with a bigger and better scheme up her sleeve.

Lila, The Handler’s daughter, managed to flee at the end of season two, but we’d bet big on her reappearing in season three. Will she side with The Umbrella Academy or turn on them with her abilities?

Fans will be hoping for a Lila-Diego happily ever after, so let’s hope they get it.

But, before we get to happy endings, there’s the question of The Sparrow Academy, which is bound to raise a few eyebrows.

Who are they, how did they get their start, and what does this signify for The Umbrella Academy?
We won’t be able to find solutions in the comics. Even though they’ve been mentioned in the literature, they remain a mystery. However, the group is called after Vol 4 of the comic (which has yet to be released), so expect some huge developments there – and the information co-creator Gerard Way has given on that book could guide the way to season 3’s plot.

According to Forbes, the comic series’ fourth book will be titled ‘Sparrow Academy.’

“[It] deals with a major reveal in the Umbrella Academy universe, something that has been kept a secret for a long time, and our siblings learn a lot about what was going on behind the scenes, as well as the true nature of some people who have been with them since the beginning,” Way explained.

‘What about the other babies born on that day, at that moment?’ the series finally begins to respond. The siblings of the Umbrella Academy are no longer alone in the world.”

Plus, now that Reginald’s true identity has been revealed, will we finally learn more about his grand scheme? “The dark side of the moon” was mentioned, but where does that come into this?

Perhaps the most pressing question is how our heroes will ever return to their normal lives. The answer could be found in a seemingly benign Easter egg from season two.

Grace breaks into Reginald’s office in episode eight, ‘The Seven Stages,’ and discovers some of the projects he’s been working on. While the focus is on space travel designs and assassination preparations for John F. Kennedy, keen-eyed fans may have seen schematics for the Televator, which Hargreeves characterizes as “the next great form of transportation.”

The Televator, as comic book readers will recall, is a lift that permits users to travel through time and space. But it can do more than that; it can also cross dimensions. If this device is created in season three, the Umbrella Academy may be able to return home one day.

Meanwhile, use this handy timeline supplied by Netflix to catch up on everything that happened in season two.

At the very least, we may examine the official episode titles, which Netflix revealed in June as part of its enormous TUDUM event.

‘Meet the Family’ seems self-evident, so that will be our Sparrows introduction. ‘World’s Biggest Ball of Twine’ will most likely deal with the previous season’s jumble of timey-wimey antics, while ‘Pocket Full of Lighting’ feels like a potential powers episode – or it may be related to the following… Make what you will of the term ‘kugelblitz,’ which is a scientific name for black holes created by radiation.

Speaking of plot, the official Instagram page for The Umbrella Academy recently released seven new sizzling promo photos that could be hiding some season three Easter eggs. The photos show the Umbrella crew except for Ben (*sob*) and Lila. Already, the possibility of Lila joining The Umbrella Academy is causing consternation. This has, of course, given viewers a glimmer of hope for the ‘Liego’ romance.

However, that isn’t the only thing the images suggest. The cast of the Umbrella Academy can be seen carrying numerous tattered umbrellas with several gashes in the cloth. A group of sparrows flies overhead, indicating that a fight of the academies is on the horizon. What a tangle! (You can read more about it here.)

How will The Umbrella Academy react to being replaced by the Sparrows, as well as having to fight their brother/former brother Ben?

While this will undoubtedly be especially tough for Vanya, for whom Ben gave his afterlife – their poignant goodbye a tear-jerker – Klaus, a former junkie, will undoubtedly face an uphill battle.

Klaus and Ben have always had a particular bond – although one that is forced. Klaus’ ability to see and communicate with the dead kept Ben alive longer than he should have been following his death as a teen. Klaus was able to channel Ben’s energy throughout season one and season two, allowing Ben to employ his special abilities through Klaus and eventually possess Klaus.

Klaus has always struggled with accepting his ability and used to be afraid of it, but because of Ben’s love and guidance, he has found peace with it. Klaus may be pushed over the edge of addiction by seeing this new version of Ben. Let’s hope it doesn’t get that far.

“The Sparrows have landed,” says the narrator.

Along with the announcement of a release date, fans were treated to a teaser clip, which isn’t quite a trailer. This comes after the February release of advertising images. If the seven images suggested tension between the Sparrows and the Umbrellas, the trailer predicts a fight. When Sir Reginald Hargreeves is in charge of both groups of super-humans, how could it not be? That’s a whopping twofold increase in emotional distress.

The Umbrellas and the Sparrows fight to a dramatic musical composition featuring violins in the video (Vanya, weren’t you meant to have kicked that habit?). Both Number 1s, Luther Hargreeves (the OG) and Marcus Hargreeves (leader of the Sparrows and pseudo-Luther), approach each other with mano-a-mano vigor.

The others appear to be tense for obvious reasons. Ben cricks his neck, uncomfortably calm, as if ready to pounce, and was that Marcus starting an advance if we’re not mistaken? We can’t confirm till the trailer ends.

Regardless of Ben’s new affiliation, we’re sure we’re not the only ones hoping he’ll return to the Umbrella fold. Unfortunately, this clip only provides viewers a taste of what they may expect from the upcoming season. This is, however, most likely only a teaser. There aren’t enough bits and pieces here to make a whole picture. So keep tuned, for as soon as a full trailer is released, the violins will be played.
