It was quite unexpected. Catherine is shown to forgive Peter for his actions and avoids the bloody battle. She kisses Peter and takes Paul to bed. In the end, Velementov arrests the loyal people of Peter, which is assumed to be the orders of Catherine. Catherine tries to kill Peter by stabbing him. However, she stabs Pugachev, Peter’s double.
This action raises a lot of questions in the mind of the viewers, which will be cleared in the later season probably.
