The trailer for The Cursed, a gothic thriller starring Boyd Holbrook (The Sandman, Logan), Kelly Reilly (Yellowstone, True Detective), and Alistair Petrie (Sex Education, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), has been released by LD Entertainment. The movie will be in theatres all over the country on February 18.
The writer-director Sean Ellis’s movie, which used to be called Eight for Silver, is a modern take on the werewolf legend. It had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2021. It starts in the late 1800s and shows how an attack is made on a once-peaceful village in the middle of nowhere.
No one knows who or what is behind the attack. As people keep going missing and getting killed, villagers talk about a cursed land, supernatural forces, and even demons. But when John McBride (Holbrook), a pathologist, comes to look into the danger, he finds something much deeper and more dangerous than he could have imagined.

The Cursed Plot
During the Battle of the Somme, a French captain with three bullet holes in his stomach is brought to a medical tent. During the surgery to remove the German bullets, the surgeon finds a fourth bullet that is made of silver and not German.
In the late 1800s, 35 years earlier, the village elders told the cruel land baron Seamus Laurent to kill a Roma clan that had settled on his land and had a claim to it. Laurent did so, and the village elders agreed. The night before, the Roma leaders made a set of silver teeth in the shape of a wolf’s fangs to protect them from the danger that was coming.
During the massacre, the leaders of the Roma are caught and killed. One person has his hands and feet cut off, and then he is tied to a cross and put up as a scarecrow to scare away other people who might try to settle the land. The other one is still alive and buried with the silver fangs in her hands.
At the church, the townspeople save John, Isabelle, and Charlotte and take them in. They stay there until morning when they plan to go after the beast again. After everyone has gone to sleep for the night, Isabelle goes to pray and hears Edward calling to her from outside the locked church doors.
Isabelle takes down the barrier, which lets the beast into the church, where it kills both town elders and regular people. John tries to shoot the beast with the silver bullet, but Isabelle stands between John and the beast on purpose and calls to her son.
As the beast comes at them, John has no choice but to shoot through Isabelle and into the beast. Both of them end up on the floor, and when Isabelle dies, Edward goes back to being a human. Isabelle dies while holding her healthy son.
John takes Charlotte and Edward in after the deaths of both of their parents and the destruction of their home. Charlotte gives John the last three silver bullets she found in the church after the attack. It turns out that 35 years later, the Captain who was shot is now an adult named Edward.
The silver bullet that was shot into him as a child is still stuck in him. On the operating table, Edward dies, and an adult Charlotte gives the fourth silver bullet she found back to John, who is now old and dying.
The Production of the Cursed
The movie was shot in the western part of France called Charente. It was shot with anamorphic lenses on 35mm film. In an interview with Variety, director Sean Ellis said, “We tried to do as much of it in-camera as possible because I always think that looks better.”
Ellis has said that the movie is a twist on the traditional werewolf myth and a metaphor for addiction in modern society. He also said that it “infused a new approach for the mythology of it all” because you don’t turn into something, you become a prisoner of it.

How Much Money Do They Make at the Box Office?
Along with Uncharted and Dog, the movie came out in the US and Canada during the four-day Presidents’ Day holiday. The Cursed made $1.8 million in its first three days and $2 million in its first four days, putting it in ninth place at the box office. With $1.1 million in its second weekend, the movie fell out of the top ten at the box office.
