The Best How I Met Your Mother Scenes
How I Met Your Mother is arguably one of the best American sitcoms of all time. The show, which aired from 2005, was popular for all nine seasons and by the final series had an impressive viewership of 10.5 million people.
Unlike many other long-running sitcoms, the entire main cast of How I Met Your Mother, played by Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan, remained part of the show for its duration.This allowed fans to really get to know the characters over the years and become invested in the story of Ted’s life and how he met the mother of his children.
While the show ended in 2014, fans continue to re-watch their favourite episodes. There are a number of moments that stand out for their hilarity, high-emotional and excellent screenwriting. In no particular order, here are some of the best and most memorable episodes and scenes from How I Met Your Mother:
Atlantic City – Xing Hai Shi Bu Xing
This is the episode, Lily expresses her concerns about a traditional wedding ceremony due to how Marshall’s family treats her following their previous breakup. The couple decide to avoid the drama and elope instead, which leads to the gang heading to Atlantic City.
While Lily and Robin set about putting Lily’s wedding outfit together, Barney takes Marshall and Ted to a strip club. It soon emerges that to get married in Atlantic City, the couple will need a marriage licence, for which there is a wait time.
In an effort to speed up the process, the group visits a judge. The judge, seeing how in love the couple are, is willing to grant them what they need. However, Barney messes up the entire plan by revealing that Marshall and Lily had broken up for six months previously, making the judge change his mind.
The group are able to find a boat captain to marry them in international waters but need $5000 dollars to make this happen. Barney reveals that he is in fact a master of casino game Xing Hai Shi Bu Xing and sets about winning them the cash they need.
With Marshall’s help, Barney is able to win the money and the group set off on their boat trip. While the captain does perform the ceremony, Lily and Marshall change their mind about getting married without their families presence and quickly request for it to be reversed.
The Atlantic City scenes were popular with fans across the globe, surprisingly viewing figures were especially high in Sweden for this episode. Gambling is popular in Sweden where they have easy access to nätcasino or online casinos.
Three Days of Snow
The Three Days of Snow episode has a number of memorable scenes with two stories running parallel to each other. The first Involves Barney and Ted, who are waiting at MacLarens for their dates when a huge storm sets in.
Carl the bartender must leave due to the storm, but the pair manage to convince him to allow them to run the bar in his absence, fulfilling a dream they both had. Eventually their dates show up but have brought with them the entire Arizona Tech Marching Band and the bar becomes overrun with noisy college students.The party is soon moved to Ted’s apartment.
While this is happening, Marshall is racing to the airport with Robin to keep up a tradition that Lily and he share. Traditionally, everytime one of them returns from a trip, one of them will wait at the airport with a sign and the other will greet them with a six pack of beer.
The couple had agreed to let the tradition go but both had second thoughts later on. Marshall races to their airport through the snow only to discover Lily’s flight is delayed.
When she finally does make the journey home, Lily races to find the beer but is unable to.
This episode shows a really endearing side to their relationship and struck a chord with many fans of the show.
Marshall Loses His Father
Another highly emotive moment in the series is when Marshall learns of his father’s passing.
Most of the episode centres around Lily and Marshall undergoing fertility testing as they have concerns about their chances of conceiving. Despite some initial drama at the Doctor’s office with Lily being convinced the Doctor is Barney in disguise due to their similarities, it eventually emerges that Lily is in fact super fertile.
Marshall is about to call his father to tell him the good news but pauses at the thought that his fertility may in fact be the problem. After his tests come back ok, Marshall tries again but is unsuccessful in contacting his father.
