In the second half of 2021, Netflix's Korean series Squid Game would have been impossible to miss unless you were living under a rock.
Finally, some people were aware that there is an incredible amount of Korean content available to subscribers worldwide because of this epic battle of wits.
There was yet another K-horror hit on Netflix this year with All Of Us Are Dead. This means that you are missing out on an enormous amount of content if you cannot find something to watch through the service. There's something for everyone in this ever-expanding market, from Love Alarm and Itaewon Class to Kingdom and Crash Landing On You.
There hasn't been anything like Squid Game yet, with creepy giant ‘Red Light, Green light' dolls popping up worldwide and even numerous recreations of the games being played by super fans (without the added side of death).
When Can We Expect the Second Season of Squid Game to Air?
As of right now, no firm date has been set for the release of Squid Game 2, but the sequel is undoubtedly on the way.
Considering how popular Squid Game has become on Netflix, new episodes were only a matter of time before the series returned.
We came up with a clever game-related pun. According to Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, new episodes were commissioned in November of 2021, and fans will have to play ‘the waiting game while they wait for them to be released. (Wasn't that clever?) Proud of you!
He said to the AP: “For a second season, there's been a tonne of pressure, demand, and love. Almost like you've given us no other option! There will, however, be a second season; I can guarantee it. I'm thinking about it at the moment. I'm currently in the planning stages of my project. I don't think it's too early to speculate on the specifics of when and how that will occur. So, I'll make good on my promise to you… “Gi-Hun will return and do something for the world,” a friend predicts.”
In addition, it appears that a third season may already be in the works.
According to Korean broadcaster KBS (via the Korea Times), in December 2021, Hwang said: “Netflix is interested in a second and third season of my show. We'll get to the bottom of this soon enough.”
It's unlikely that the second season will be released on 8 September 2022.
When Can We Expect a New Season of Squid Game to Be Released?
Squid Game 2 has yet to receive an official release date, but it is on the road.
We knew more episodes would be coming because Squid Game has been one of Netflix's most popular programs in recent years.
In November 2021, the show's creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, stated that additional episodes had been ordered and that viewers would have to play ‘the waiting game while they waited for them to air. How clever are you? ) We thought of a creative play on words. I'm proud of you!
He told the AP that he had this to say
“There's been a tonne of pressure, interest, and support for a second season to live up to the hype. So it's almost as if you've given us no option! There will, however, be another season. I'm thinking about that right now. I'm currently in the planning stages of the project.
It is still too early to determine when or how this will occur. So, I'll make my promise: After a long hiatus, Gi-Hun will return and do something for the greater good.”
Furthermore, it appears that a third season is already in the works.
Korean network KBS (via Korea Times) quoted Hwang in December 2021: “Talks are ongoing with Netflix over the second and third seasons of my show. We'll come to a decision soon enough.”
It's unlikely that the second season will be released soon because it took two years to produce the first one.
Hwang Dong-hyuk Talked About the Production of Season 2 of Squid Game
A new season of the show, which Hwang is said to be working on from his home in South Korea, was discussed with GoldDerby.
He admitted to the website that he was “missing a lot of sleep” because of the situation. IT'S A CHALLENGING TASK since I killed most of the beloved characters from season 1.
On the other hand, Hwang is looking forward to bringing in fresh faces for a new series of matches.
In the earliest stages of developing season 2, I can only say that it's pretty tricky, especially when there are so many high expectations for it.” No matter how hard I try, I won't fail you. I want to introduce new personalities that people can identify with and root for,” he said.
He said that killer games were most challenging to bring to life for Dong-hyuk. Season 1 of Red Light, Green Light, Marbles, and Tug of War featured nine shocking, violent, and visually appealing episodes. Squid Game has been in development for over a decade, and Netflix is unlikely to give him the time he needs to produce season 2.
That's true, according to Dong-plans hyuk's for the upcoming season. Viewers will have to wait to see which classic children's games make an appearance in Squid Game season 2.
With its exploration of how human desperation can corrode humanity and whether or not humans are decent at their core, Squid Game continues to resonate with viewers as a series of survival games. Squid Game is certainly not showing any signs of abating its pace.
Netflix hinted at a Squid Game universe with the announcement of season 2. Squid Game season 2 is expected to have a riveting plot and a new batch of games when it premieres on Netflix.
