Sikki Reddy, Kiran Undergo COVID-19 Tests Again

Covid-19 has taken the whole world under its control. But now in the month of July, the government has lifted up lockdown. But cases are still rising; now it’s up to the country’s citizens what type of precautions they take. 

As sports is a place where standard guidelines can’t be followed, Social distancing is a thing which is impossible in sports. 

According to the news, Sikki Reddy and Kiran Challagundla are undergoing the COVID-19 test for the second time. He is a Double badminton player; she is a 26-year-old bronze medallist. Kiran Challagundla is her physiotherapist.

What actually happened?

There Were 21 people, which included athletes, coaches, and support staff. They had undergone the COVID-19 test, which was mandated by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) trail to start the training. 

This was when Sikki and Kiran were tested positive for the first time, and due to which the national camp in Hyderabad was sanitized and called off immediately. Thankfully the other 19 where negative. 

Two days ago, Kiran and Sikki took a decision to go for the test for the second time in continental hospital in Hyderabad. They wanted to be double sure for the virus. The rest of the team will go for the second round of testing if Sikki’s and Kiran’s reports are positive. 

Currently, both of them don’t have symptoms as such and have home quarantined themselves. Sikki’s husband, B. Sumeeth Reddy, went for the COVID test along with his and Sikki’s family for precautionary purposes. Sumeeth is not part of the camp, but he is the double specialist as well. 

Ashwini Ponnappa is Sikki’s Women’s doubles partner and is currently in Bangalore. On 7 August, Sikki was spotted training with Namrih Suroto, Miftah, Agus Dwi Santoso, who are Indonesian doubles coaches. Along with them, two more spare players from Indonesia were seen. 

The physiotherapist Johnson Solomon and the Indonesian players who had trained along with PV Sindhu, the world champion and B Sai Or a new thing the world bronze winner, were seen in a picture of the training clicked by Sikki. 

It’s known from the sources that Kidambi Srikanth and Praneeth, who had joined the camp on Monday, had gotten their tapping done from Kiran.

Rio Olympics Silver medallist PV Sindhu and Sikki have been training at different times. However, they both were seen in a single picture together, which was clicked on the day when their training had started. 

According to the sources, Saina Nehwal has been practicing along with her husband separately in a private facility. 

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chita Shetty, the pair of men’s doubles, are to join the camp soon in the coming weeks. 

After the All-England that took place in March, The Badminton World Federation (BWF) had called off all the matches and the world tournament due to this pandemic. They had reportedly made some new schedules in May, but no game has taken place so far.
