Shakira Eventually Speaks Out About Her Split From Gerard Piqué

Shakira and Spanish soccer star Gerard Piqué announced their breakup three months ago, and for the first time, the “Hips Don't Lie” singer talked all about their breakup.

In a new story that was released on Wednesday, Shakira said, “I feel like in this period of my life, which is probably one of the most difficult, darkest hours of my life, music has provided light” (Sept. 21).

“I haven't said anything and have just tried to take it all in. The fact that I'm still dealing with it, the fact that I'm in the public eye, and the fact that our split is not like a typical separation make it difficult to talk about. So it's been difficult for my kids as much as for myself. incredibly challenging.

I have paparazzi camped out in front of my house all the time, she continued. The only place I can hide from them with my children is in my own house. We can't go out for ice cream, a walk in the park, or any other activity without photographers following us, you know.

Consequently, it's challenging. And I've made every effort to hide the issue from my children. Since protecting them is my top priority in life, I attempt to accomplish it. However, they later learn stuff from their pals at school or find unfavorable news online, and it simply affects them, you know?

Shakira continued by saying she believes everything is a “terrible dream” from which she will finally awaken. “No, it's real, though. And what's also genuine is my disappointment at how the media has degraded and trivialized my relationship with my children's father, which I had believed to be precious and special, she told the outlet.

“And I've been battling on various fronts while my dad has been in the intensive care unit. As I already stated, this is likely the lowest moment of my life. But then I consider all the women in the world who are struggling, who are dealing with conditions that are either worse than mine or just as challenging as mine.

She added that she had to cease travelling in 2014 when the first kid of the ex-couple, Milan, had grown a little older. She said, “I knew I had to settle down, establish roots in Barcelona, and be there for him, for Gerard, and then later on for [their second son] Sasha as well.

“I had to support him because he wanted to play football and win championships as a soccer player. I all, one of us had to give something up, right? He would either terminate his contract with Barcelona and follow me to the United States, where my profession is, or I would have to move there on my own.

While promoting her 2010 World Cup anthem, “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” Shakira ran into the Barcelona defender.
