Shadow of the Erdtree Release Date Speculation and Everything We Know So Far!
The first major expansion for FromSoftware’s Elden Ring, a highly praised open-world action RPG, is called Shadow of the Erdtree. Stunning key artwork that teases some of the new features and places in the expansion was released alongside the DLC announcement on February 28, 2023 via the official Elden Ring and FromSoftware Twitter pages.
What can we anticipate from Shadow of the Erdtree, and when will it be available? This is everything we know about the planned DLC for Elden Ring.
What is the Release Date of Shadow of the Erdtree?
Shadow of the Erdtree’s release date is currently unknown. However, Shadow of the Erdtree will be launched around late 2023 or early 2024, depending on the scope of the game and the time needed to polish it. Elden Ring’s one-year anniversary and the winter holiday season in 2023 make those months a potential releasing window.
The alternative would be to release it in the first quarter of 2024, around February or March, giving FromSoftware more time to polish the game and avoiding the release date conflict with other key titles. On February 28, 2023, a tweet revealed that Shadow of the Erdtree was in production.

What is Shadow of the Erdtree About?
While most of Shadow of the Erdtree’s content is still a mystery, we can make some healthy guesses based on the expansion’s name and its cover picture. The artwork depicts a player character galloping through a huge field of wheat atop a Torrent-like horse (a mountable creature in Elden Ring).
The character looks like Miquella1, one of the six Demigods who each received a piece of the Elden Ring from their mother Queen Marika1.
Because of the fertile area she ruled over, Miquella is also known as the Fertile Queen1. Shadow of the Erdtree, the expansion’s title, also alludes to Miquella and her rule. Elden Ring’s setting, the Lands Between1, is home to a massive tree known as the Erdtree.
Its branches spread to every part of the earth, and legend has it that the Erdtree is where all life and magic begin1. Miquella’s realm is situated beneath one of these limbs1, which may account for its abundance and prosperity.
Shadow of the Erdtree may therefore offer new locations, game mechanics, equipment, weapons, NPCs, enemies, and discoveries associated with Miquella’s realm and the Erdtree itself, as well as examine her story and position in Elden Ring’s lore.
Considering that Miquella, a daughter of Queen Marika, has five brothers and sisters—Malanir (the Golden Lion), Morene (the Silver Knight), Glaive Master Hodir (the Blade Master), Yarion (the Storm King), and Itherael (the Exiled) who also inherited shards of the Elden Ring, some fans have speculated that Shadow of the Erdtree could also feature some changes or twists to the family tree of the Elden Ring3. The new area may include the disclosure of secrets or the resolution of conflicts between these Demigods.
Where Can We Stream Shadow of the Erdtree?
The genuine question that all the audience members of The Erdtree have is, Where can they stream it? Elden Ring’s downloadable content, Shadow of the Erdtree, will be playable on the same systems as the main game: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam1.
The DLC’s pricing and inclusion in a season pass or deluxe Elden Ring edition remain a mystery. Shadow of the Erdtree’s price has yet to be announced, but based on FromSoftware’s previous DLC prices, we should expect it to be anywhere from $20 to $40 USD2, depending on how much content it includes.
Conclusion
To the already huge and immersive Elden Ring, the next addition, Shadow of the Erdtree, promises to bring even more substance and depth. We don’t know much about it just yet, but it will likely be published in late 2023 or early 2024 and will include content relating to Miquella and the Erdtree, such as new locations, mechanics, equipment, weapons, NPCs, bosses, and discoveries.
We will keep you posted on any developments as they occur, and we hope you’ll share our enthusiasm for this growth. You’re welcome; may the golden order’s grace light your path.
