Fans of Virgin River, settle down because we won’t be leaving the fictional tiny town anytime soon.
After the heartbreaking season 3 ending, Netflix hardly gave us a chance to dry our tears before delivering some good news: Virgin River has been officially renewed for two more seasons. (You read that correctly!) It seemed pretty obvious that a fourth season would be coming after Mel and Jack left us on a real precipice with an unanticipated pregnancy and a surprise proposal hanging in the air—but no one expected to hear about Virgin River season 5 so soon.
Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson, two of the show’s main stars, revealed the news with a lovely video on Instagram. Martin proposes to Alexandra in front of the beautiful scenery of the Virgin River, which is filmed behind them. Then he asks the question that we’ve all been anticipating.
“I’ve been meaning to ask you a question.” He says, pretending earnestness, “I want to do this well.” “Would you like to do a fourth season?”
Alexandra, of course, went along with the game.
“I do!” she exclaimed. “I’ve been meaning to ask you whether you’d like to do a fifth season?”
Just when you thought they couldn’t get any cuter, they do!
Fans will be disappointed to learn that it is not all good news. There have been certain delays, according to the cast, that may cause the season 5 release date to be pushed back. Alexandra said during a recent Instagram Live that production had been “pushed.”
“We were intended to begin filming season five in March, but it was pushed back so…
I’m not sure. “I’m not sure, man,” she admitted. “Perhaps we’ll start in the summer,” says the author. It would be good to shoot in the summer rather than the cold in Vancouver.”

Is There a Fifth Season of Virgin River in the Works?
Yes, it has! Netflix revealed that a fourth and fifth season of Virgin River will be published just two months after season three was released in July 2021.
“[With] everything that’s been going on in the globe, people are increasingly yearning for, not just that comfort, but also that feeling of optimism and that feeling of community,” said Jinny Howe, Netflix’s VP of original programs, in a statement to USA Today.
“It all came together organically, and I believe this was more of a proof point that this is a really important area of programming for us.”

What Did the Cast Have to Say About the Fifth Season of Virgin River?
Mel Monroe’s actress Alexandra Breckenridge confirmed in early January 2022 that filming for season five has been pushed back. “We were scheduled to start [filming] in March, but it was pushed so…,” she remarked on Instagram Stories. I’m not sure. I’m not sure, man.
“Perhaps we’ll start in the summer,” says the author. It would be preferable to shoot in the summer rather than the winter in Vancouver. To be honest, I’m pretty much-done filming in Vancouver during the winter. I’m not sure I’d want to do that again.
“It’s bitterly cold.” And it’s not wonderful when you’re standing outdoors with sandals and small clothing since it’s meant to be summer!”
Who Will Star in the Fifth Season of Virgin River?
We can’t say for sure which characters will appear in season five because we don’t know what occurs in season four (could there be a shocking death?). Fans are eager to see Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge), Jack (Martin Henderson), John (Colin Lawrence), Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley), Hope (Annette O’Toole), and Doc (Martin Henderson) on television (Tim Matheson). And who knows, maybe there will be some new blood as well?
What Could Happen in the Fifth Season of Virgin River?
Fans are eager to learn if Jack or Mel’s late ex-husband Mark is the father of her child, so it all relies on what season four brings. Then there’s the tiny matter of whether Jack will follow through on his proposal.

Given Alexandra Breckenridge’s announcement that production will begin in the spring/summer of 2022, it’s unlikely we’ll see anything before 2023. Virgin River season four is expected to premiere in the next six months, so that’s something to look forward to!
