Season 3 of Fleabag: Will There Be a Third Season of the Phoebe Waller-bridge Series?

Andrew Scott’s sexy priest muttered “it’ll pass” to Fleabag’s “I love you” more than two years ago, and our world was rocked beyond reckoning by that seemingly innocuous one-line.

Fleabag, a British comedy-drama that stormed the award season in 2019-2020 and deservedly so, was unexpectedly cancelled after season two. The comedy, created by the tremendously gifted Phoebe Waller-Bridge, began in 2016 on BBC3, and Waller-Bridge, the creator and star, returns for a second season in 2019.

Fleabag was also on former US President Barack Obama’s list of favourite TV programmes in 2019, coming in ninth on The Guardians’ Top 100 Best Shows of the Twenty-First Century. So, what happened after that? Where is Season 3 of Fleabag? Is a third season of Fleabag in the works? Why did the show finish if it was already over?

Is There a Third Season of Fleabag?

No, not yet. Fleabag Season 3 is currently unavailable and is unlikely to be released in the near future. Fleabag creator and actor Phoebe Waller-Bridge has spoken out about this on multiple occasions, and she looks to be confident in her decision not to extend the show for a third season.

“I have thought about it and there isn’t going to be one,” she told the reports when asked about Season 3. This is it—we’ve reached the end.” “And yeah, I did mention that last time,” she continued.

Season 3 of Fleabag

At the 71st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, Fleabag Season 2 garnered a total of 11 nominations, with the cast and crew taking home significant prizes.

“This just feels like the most lovely, beautiful way to say goodbye to it,” Waller-Bridge said to the reporters backstage at the 71st Emmy Awards after winning Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Comedy Series. It’s wonderful to finish on a high note. You won’t be able to get any higher than this.”

There will not be a Season 3 of Fleabag, according to what Waller-Bridge has stated multiple times.

Why Isn’t ‘Fleabag’ Getting A Third Season?

The second season of ‘Fleabag’ ended on a sad note.
At the end of the show, the main character confesses to the Hot Priest, “I love you.” “It’ll pass,” he reassuringly promises her. The display on season 2 of the critically acclaimed series goes black after a few seconds.

The worldwide anticipation for a third season has not waned. It’s also improbable that the show will be renewed for another season. Phoebe, the show’s creator, stated that the plot is finished.

“It’s like, ‘Oh crap, maybe I shouldn’t have waved goodbye,’ even though it’s so lovely to hear that so many people enjoyed it.’ [But] it feels like the storey is finished… it feels natural to end on a high note. This is the pinnacle of achievement. Well, it seems like the ideal way to bid go.”

“Fantasy Of Reuniting With Her”

Phoebe also stated that she fantasises about resurrecting the protagonist. Maybe later, but not right now.

“It feels like it’s over, but I fantasise about bringing her back when I’m 45 or 50.” She underwent the most significant transformation over the past two seasons, beginning as someone who despised herself and ending as someone who believes she can love and forgive herself. I’m going to have to respect that arc and let her live for a while.”

“The reasons to end never felt as primal as they do now,” she said in the interview. I’m a great believer in gut instinct.”

‘It Was A Beautiful Ending’

You’re probably all aware of Andrew Scott’s portrayal of the Hot Priest. He did say, though, that if requested, he would be willing to complete another season.

“Beyond a shadow of a doubt,” says the narrator. I’ll do anything she wants of me. But I prefer that the chapter is now closed for the time being since I think it was a lovely, wonderful finale. It was a lovely conclusion.”

Will Fleabag Be Resurrected?

Although Waller-Bridge appears to be confident in her decision not to renew Fleabag, she has expressed a desire to bring the show back when she is 45 or 50 years old.
