Love Life, which premiered on May 27, 2020, has already cemented its position in HBO Max history as the streaming service’s first original written series.
“And it performed well,” HBO and HBO Max Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys said, referring to the romantic comedy anthology series, which starred and was executive produced by Anna Kendrick and was promptly renewed for a second season only days after its premiere.
Season 2 switched the spotlight away from Kendrick’s Darby Carter and toward Marcus Watkins, played by William Jackson Harper, as he navigates dating in New York City. The season began on Oct. 28 and ended on Nov. 11 with the finale.
During an interview for the HBO/HBO Max TCA presentation, Bloys indicated a possible third chapter of Love Life, “No decision.” “It’s an anthology, so a lot of it is about who plays the lead, but there’s no decision or movement to discuss.”
He also mentioned Season 2’s critical acclaim, which received 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, up from 79 percent for Season 1.
“If you noticed, Love Life Season 2 ended up on a lot of Best Of lists at the end of the year,” Bloys added, “so I’m hopeful that the Emmy voters will remember fantastic performances in the program.”
