Despite being labelled as a reboot, the film is a direct sequel to Scream 4 (2011) and is the first in the franchise to be directed by Wes Craven since his death in 2015. At the start of the ending credits, the picture is dedicated to Craven. Melissa Barrera, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Sonia Ammar feature in the picture, which also stars Roger L. The film is set twenty-five years after the original Woodsboro murders, when a new Ghostface arrives and begins hunting down a group of youngsters who are all tied to the previous crimes in some way. Scream, like previous instalments, satirises the tendency of reboots and legacy sequels by combining slasher violence with elements of black humour and “whodunit” intrigue. The film also makes a point about horror fandom culture, namely the distinction between “elevated horror” and traditional slasher flicks.

In Addition to a Release Date and Time, Scream 5 Has Also Been Confirmed.

Scream 5 is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and it will star the original cast members Marley Shelton, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich, and Roger L. Jackson, all of whom will reprise their roles from the previous films in the series. Scream 5 is set to be released in theatres on October 19, 2018.

Following the events of the last film, 25 years have elapsed; a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and has begun preying on a group of children. When Wes Craven announced in 2011 that he had inked an agreement to work on the fifth and sixth instalments of the Scream franchise, he implied that the fifth and sixth films would be released if the fourth film garnered a favourable critical and financial response. After Wes Craven passed away, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett were chosen to take over as director and producer, respectively.

Neve Campbell will reprise her role as Sidney Prescott from the previous films, and she has indicated interest in appearing in the sixth instalment as well. Campbell told The Hollywood Reporter that she was apprehensive to return to the franchise following Wes Craven’s death, but that Matt and Tyler persuaded her. “She added,” she said “I received a really nice letter from the new one’s directors [Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett]. They addressed a letter to Wes in which they expressed their gratitude for Wes and the Scream films, and they stated that Wes and the Scream films are the reason they produce horror films.”

Plot

A high school student named Tara Carpenter is home alone when she is assaulted by Ghostface and hospitalised twenty-five years after Billy Loomis and Stu Macher’s killing spree in Woodsboro.

Wes Hicks, one of Tara’s pals, informs Tara’s estranged elder sister Sam Carpenter about the attack in Modesto. Sam travels to Woodsboro with her boyfriend Richie to see Tara in the hospital, where she meets up with Tara’s friends Wes, Amber Freeman, Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin, and Chad’s girlfriend Liv McKenzie.

That night, Ghostface kills Liv’s ex-boyfriend Vince Schneider, Stu Macher’s nephew, outside a pub. Sam is assaulted by Ghostface at the hospital, and she tells Tara that she has been having hallucinations of Billy Loomis, who she learned was her biological father when she was a teenager. Sam’s real origins caused their parents to divorce, which is why he is separated from Tara.

Dewey Riley, who is divorced from Gale Weathers, is visited by Sam and Richie. They beg for his assistance in catching the killer, and he calls Gale and Sidney Prescott to alert them of Ghostface’s reappearance. Dewey arrives at Mindy and Chad’s house and is reunited with the twins’ mother, Martha Meeks, Randy’s sister. Sam is accused of being the killer since the three assaults targeted persons connected to the original killers.

Wes and his mother, Sheriff Judy Hicks, are later murdered at their house by Ghostface. Dewey meets up with Gale, who has come to town to cover the story. Tara and Richie are attacked by Ghostface at the hospital, but are saved by Dewey and Sam; Dewey is killed when he tries to finish Ghostface off.

Final Words

Wes Craven revealed in 2011 that he had been hired to work on a fifth and sixth edition of the Scream franchise, which would be created if the fourth film’s release and response were successful.

Craven claimed that he would need to see a finished version of a screenplay for Scream 5 before committing to the production, citing issues with script rewrites on Scream 2, Scream 3, and Scream 4, with pages frequently just being ready on the day of filming, and the resulting stress.

Kevin Williamson also acknowledged that he had contractual commitments for Scream 4 and 5, having submitted concepts for three films prior to Scream 6, albeit his contract for the sixth picture had not yet been formalised. If a Scream 5 were to be developed, Williamson stated that it would be a continuation of the narrative of the characters who survived Scream 4, but that Scream 4 would not have any cliffhangers that would lead into the hypothetical sequel.
