Scream 5 is officially under development – here are the things we know about the sequel so far. Scream franchise, Kevin Williamson, first created in 1996 by Wes Craven (a nightmare on Elm Street) specifically, while serving as a mainstay in the slasher series with cast members Dave Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette.
At the center of the franchise is Ghostface, a masked killer haunting audiences for more than two decades.
After the success of the first film, a sequel greened and premiered in 1997. After avoiding the events of the first installment, Sydney went to Prescott (Campbell) College, where he encountered a copy-cat killer. Gayle Weyers (Cox) and Davey Riley (Arquette) were together for the ride once again.
The trio reprised their roles for the 2000 Scream 3 before a span of a decade in the franchise. The group returned in 2011 for Scream 4, a sequel that combined a new group of characters with Sydney, Gael, and Dewey, as the focus went back to Woodborough. Since then, the franchise has launched a TV series, which has restricted three seasons.
Since the 2011 revival, there were rumors of a modern trilogy being completed. Craven and Williamson revealed that they were contracted to work on several sequels, but nothing happened after the fourth film.
Craven died sadly in 2015, ending any previous plans in the sequel. In 2019, BLM house expressed interest in reviving the franchise. Later that year, SpyGlass Media Group took the franchise right. The ball has been rolling for scream 5 since.
Scream 5 Release Date
SpyGlass announced on August 29, 2020, a theatrical release date on January 14, 2022. The Scream 5 pre-production is reportedly going well and the crew aimed to begin filming in mid-2020. When the coronavirus epidemic hit, the production schedule shifted but it is expected to be withdrawn later this year.
Scream 5 Director
Scream 5 will mark the franchise’s first film to not have Craven at the helm as director. However, Williamson is working as an executive producer, giving fans a sense that the film is in good hands.
Instead of a director, the upcoming sequel will have two names on the director’s chair: Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. The pair previously co-directed the stand-up hit of 2019, Ready or Knot. He is also the co-founder of a film production collective called Radio Silence.

Scream 5 Cast
When Scream 5 plans were first announced, it was unknown whether the project would be a sequel, reboot, or remake. Now it has been made clear that the film will avail as a sequel, with a new core cast with appearances by the original characters.
So far, David Arquette has signed on to appear in the film reprising his role as Deputy Sheriff Davy Riley, Kourtney Cox will return as Gayle Weyers, and Nave Campbell returns to his iconic role of Sydney Prescott Will.
Many would also like to see the return of Kirby Reed of Hayden Panettiere, a character of Free Scream 4 whose luck was unknown. Another Scream 4 character, Sheriff Judi Hicks of Marley Shelton, has already been confirmed as returning.
New artists added so far include Melissa Berrera (in Heights), Jack Quad (The Boys), Mason Gooding (Bookmart), Dylan Minnet (13 Reasons Why), and Jenna Orga (U), Kyle Galler, Jasmine Savoy Brown, and Mickey Madison. Details on all these new roles have not yet emerged.
Scream 5 Story
Without full cast details, it is difficult to predict what the Scream 5 plot will look like. Assuming that Campbell is returning, development is proceeding without the assurance that Sydney will not be the center of the story.
It is understandable whether there is a more clear connection between the new set of characters and the original figures, whether it is the founding of Woodsboro or a family situation with Scream 4. We can confirm the return of Ghostface, but who’s standing behind the mask is anyone’s guess at this point. Anyway, there will be bloodshed.
Scream 5 And Scream 6 Were Already Planned
Promoting Scream 4 in 2011, both Craven and screenwriter Kevin Williamson confirmed that their wings await 5 and 6, the latest one should be another hit. No plot details were ever revealed for either of them, but it was hinted that they would be the beginning of a new trilogy based around the survivors of Part 4.
After 4 saw a drop in business at the box office (it only grossed $ 38.2 million in the US), the enthusiasm for another film died down.
