“Saturday Night Live” Is Blamed by Andy Samberg for Neglecting His Mental Health

Many viewers of Saturday Night Live lament the departure of Andy Samberg from the beloved sketch show, but he recently revealed the heartbreaking reason he made the decision to stand down: his health.

During his Peacock program “Heart to Hart,” Samberg said to Kevin Hart, “For me, it was, like, I can’t actually endure it anymore.” both mentally and physically. My life was disintegrating around me.

Andy Claims SNL Overworks Its Staff Members

Continuing to describe the toll the performance had on him, Andy said, He went on, “It was physically taxing me, and I reached a point where I hadn’t slept in seven years. For seven years, it’s essentially equivalent to not sleeping four days a week. I simply kind of physically collapsed.

Andry acknowledges that Saturday Night Live had normalized an overworked culture, implying that others were going through burnout in a similar way to him.

“Oh, same, everybody said,” he went on. Nobody asked, ‘What?’ Everyone said, “Oh, yeah, yeah.” That’s exactly what takes place. As if you ran into a wall. We’re not designed to function in that manner.

Samberg Gained Notoriety Through SNL

Samberg’s path to prominence started with his distinct comic skill and inventiveness with digital media, which ultimately brought him to one of the most recognizable television shows ever: Saturday Night Live. American sketch comedy and variety show Saturday Night Live (SNL) debuted in 1975 and has since grown to become a cultural icon, helping countless comedians and actors launch their careers.

Samberg’s big break came when he was a featured player on Saturday Night Live in 2005. Samberg, along with his buddies Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, formed The Lonely Island, a comedy group prior to Saturday Night Live. Their internet comedy music videos and digital shorts, which demonstrated their inventive and caustic humor, helped them garner a following.

Samberg gained notoriety at SNL very fast thanks to his digital shorts, which were a mainstay of the program. These Lonely Island-produced shorts were frequently pre-recorded sketches that appeared during the live performance.

A rap about an ordinary day in New York City, “Lazy Sunday,” one of his most well-known digital shorts, went viral and was a pivotal moment in the early days of viral online content. Among the other noteworthy shorts is “Dick in a Box,” an Emmy-winning music video with Justin Timberlake that is both controversial and entertaining.

Beyond digital shorts, Samberg was well-known for his impressions and live sketches on Saturday Night Live. His ability to mimic well-known people like Mark Zuckerberg and Nicolas Cage, in addition to his recurring roles, demonstrated his variety and range of humor.

Samberg carried on building on his fame after leaving Saturday Night Live in 2012, appearing in movies such as Hot Rod and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. He also starred in the highly regarded television series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, in which he portrays the endearing and silly detective Jake Peralta.

Although Andy has made sporadic returns to Saturday Night Live, including one in 2014, fans shouldn’t anticipate a full-time comeback anytime soon given his recent remarks.
