Ronda Rousey was born in Riverside County, California, on February 1, 1987. Rousey had trouble with her speech for the first six years of her life because her umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck when she was born.
When she was three, her parents moved from Riverside, California, to Jamestown, North Dakota, so she could go to Minot State University for specialized and intensive speech therapy. AnnaMaria De Mars, her mother, was the first woman from the United States to win a World Judo Championship.
Also, while raising her daughters, her mother went to the University of California, Riverside, to get her Ph.D. Ron Rousey, her real father, killed himself in 1995 after he broke his back sledding and found out he would be a paraplegic.
