Popular Romcoms on Netflix
A well sought-after romcom is always the perfect watch. Sometimes, you can be lucky enough to catch a popular romantic comedy on live TV (click here for TV aerial installation). However, other times, you must approach the wild world of Netflix and wow, that can be hard to navigate through! Luckily for you, we have compiled a list of some of the most popular romcoms on Netflix to make it easier. You’re welcome!
She’s the Man
The nostalgia will be sure to rush back when you click play on this classic 2006 romcom starring Amanda Bynes and Channing Tatum, especially seeing Channing Tatum as his 26-year-old self! When Viola (Bynes) is no longer able to continue her passion for soccer (football) due to her school team being cut, the only reasonable solution is to, umm, impersonate her brother and join a boys’ team?
All goes according to plan, well slightly. She has the sideburns, the uniform, the hairstyle, and debatably, the voice of a boy, but can she mask her feminine side when she starts to develop feelings for her roommate Duke? We can’t blame her! Who could resist Channing Tatum after all?
He’s All That
Ironically, Addison Rae stars in this newly released Netflix original as a social media influencer wishing to redeem herself following a live stream outburst with her cheating ex-boyfriend. With a rapid decline in followers, her career begins to go into turmoil which is highlighted by her real-life friend, but sponsor in the film, Kourtney Kardashian.
To remain successful, she attempts the challenge of making a quiet and socially secluded classmate prom king. However, when she realises that they have a bond and starts to develop feelings will her mission to become popular remain, or will her feelings and genuineness come out on top?
What Happens in Vegas
What better setting for a rom-com than Sin City? Even better when the film stars Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz who meet unexpectedly, accompany one another on a drunken night out, and mistakenly…get married. A wild night out if we ever did hear it!
With a firm plan to divorce as soon as they can, their plans are interrupted when Jack (Kutcher) hits the jackpot on a slot machine with Joy’s (Diaz) quarter. To split the winnings, they must attempt marriage but is that even possible when the pair despise one another? Or do they? It is only a matter of time before they realise that they really are made for one another.
Holidate
When Sloan Benson (Emma Roberts) receives utmost criticism from her mother for being forever single, an encounter with an uncommitted stranger while returning unwanted Christmas gifts changes everything.
After Sloan discusses with, the newly met, Jackson her aunt’s routine of bringing a different date to every family event on each holiday, Jackson suggests, that to assist them both, they do the same. No feelings involved. Ahh, if only it was that easy. As you can presume, like every popular romcom that involves a platonic friendship, their “holiday” plan, well, does not go according to plan!
The DUFF
A high school teen film centred around social exclusion always turns out to be a popular rom-com, doesn’t it? When senior student Bianca is informed that she is the “DUFF” of her friend group, she is disheartened to hear that the only reason others would take an interest in her is for a direct route towards her attractive and popular best friends.
As the phrase stands for Designated Ugly Fat Friend, her confidence is knocked. To improve her credibility and social status, she seeks help from a popular football player, Wesley, and in exchange, she will assist him academically. Following the typical storyline, as expected, the pair become invested in one another and slowly become more than friends, but will Wesley diminish his credibility by settling for Bianca?
Set It Up
Have a difficult time at work? Or, do you have an overbearing boss? Well, we have the perfect solution. No, don’t suddenly quit your job. Take a leaf out of Harper and Charlie’s book and ensure that you divert their attention elsewhere. It should work, well we hope!
When they meet one evening while picking up their bosses’ dinner, they reveal to one another that they need a break and agree to attempt to set their superiors up with one another. It all surprisingly went to plan; however, did they anticipate that they would be setting themselves up too!? Check out this popular romcom today to find out.
He’s Just Not That into You
Starring fan favourites such as Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, and Drew Barrymore, wow the list truly goes on, it is no surprise why He’s Just Not That into You was such a hit when it was released back in 2009. Who are we kidding, it still is! That’s why it has made the list.
Following various storylines, the film follows different plots involving romantic relationships that face complexities over time across a group of young adults in their 20s and 30s. We believe that the film’s popularity comes from the agreement that we can all relate to a scenario throughout in one way or another. We have all been there! Check it out today if you want a little trip down memory lane.
