Ponyo – What is it About?

Ponyo

The movie starts with a goldfish named Ponyo who lives under the water with her family. Her father, Fujimoto, who ance a human wizard scientist with some of the great magical powers takes her daughter Ponyo and other children to the outing. In the midway, Ponyo lost her path, just like what happened in Finding Nemo. She got excited after watching jellyfish and started to follow her way.

Moreover, after some time missing, she got in the hands of the fishers, who planned to sell her in the market at a good price. Luckily, in the way, his life was saved by a small five-year boy, Sosuke. Ponyo was trapped in a glass jar but the small boy broke the jar in order to free her and also cut her hand during the process.

Ponyo licks the cut and it automatically heals up. Now, she started to live with the small boy and their bond got stronger. Now, there is much of a twist and you would resemble the story with the Little Mermaid.

Ponyo started to fall in love with Sosuke and he also started to protect her more and more. During her visit to the home, she shows her interest in transforming into a human, her father, who overheard all these things, denied her request and asked her to be who she is.

She and Fujimoto start to have a big fight and after that, Ponyo shows her magic to transform into a human. As she had already licked the human blood, her wishes came true and her power also got stronger. Now, there is still much of the human transformation remaining and her sibling helps in the process.

When Ponto fully transformed into a human, she finally returned back to Sosuke. But things didn’t go as easy as they seemed. The transformation of a fish into a human-caused the imbalance in the ocean resulting in the tsunami.

Ponyo 2 – Will there be a Sequel?

Ponyo 2

Hayao Miyazaki, the creator of the Ponyo movie, showed his interest in the sequel to Ponyo. He said in an interview about the possibility of Ponyo 2 in the future. After the announcement was made, many people wanted to know more about the details of Ponyo 2.

It was the time of 2009 but 11 years have passed and the fans of Ponyo are wondering if the news was ever real or just made up? Well, Hayao is surely interested in the production of Ponyo because the movie has already been a worldwide sensation. With breaking records and endless grossing, it was a dream come true for the creators.

Toshio Suzuki then entered and asked Hayao to drop the idea. He advised him to make his own manga, The wind rises instead of thinking of a sequel and he did the same. The movie was initially not hype for the audition but after it was released, it became another hit film of Hayao but not as successful as Ponyo. Later, he started working on many projects which includes, How do you live? And more.

Ponyo 2

Another reason why we don’t have a sequel to Ponyo is Studio Ghibli never made any sequel. Despite their movies’ amazing performance, they never made any sequel. From getting Grammy nominations to the popularity and love by the fans, we were never really blessed with the sequel. Spirited Away is another such example.

It was one of the rare times where the creator desired a follow-up of any animated movies. I might think that Miyazaki must have the script and thoughts ready in his mind, that’s why there were so many things going on. Never mind, the creator is still busy with their other animated movies which might be as amazing as Ponyo in the future. But if you are wondering whether Ponyo will have a future, I doubt that.
