Early Life
Hadid was born in Nazareth, Palestine, on November 6, 1948, to a family of Palestinian Muslims. He is the son of Anwar Mohamed Hadid, who was born in 1918 and died in 1989, and Khairiah Hadid, who was born in 1925 and died in 2008. He has two brothers and five sisters. Hadid says that he is related to Dahir al-Umar, an Arab ruler of northern Palestine in the 1800s, through his mother.
As part of the 1948 Palestinian exodus, Hadid and his family left Palestine because of the 1947–1949 Palestine War. Hadid said in 2015: “We were forced to flee to Syria, and the Jewish family we helped lost our home in Safad. Interesting. That I would do it again with my family.”

Bel-Air Development Disaster
Mohamed bought a hilltop piece of land in Bel-Air for $1.9 million in 2011. After he filed plans for a new building, he got a lot of pushback from his neighbors, who thought the plans were too big and overwhelming for the area and plot.
Mohamed then built half of a 40,000-square-foot mansion that became known as “Starship Enterprise” because it looked like a spaceship. People say that the construction broke a lot of city rules and didn’t follow the plans that had been approved. The first plans called for a house that was 11,300 square feet.
