Mindy Cohn Claims the ‘Facts of Life’ Reboot Was Canceled Because a Costar Was Too Greedy
Rebooting Facts of Life nearly happened, according to Mindy Cohn, a former cast member. Nevertheless, the actress said that one of her former costars was “a greedy bitch,” which is why the show’s relaunch failed.
“You know that with all these famous people, they were performing live versions of Norman Lear’s sitcoms?” On July 19, Mindy, 58, disclosed while participating in Jeff Lewis Live on SiriusXM.
In the past, ABC aired live versions of several of its iconic series, such as Facts of Life and Different Strokes, with all-star ensembles.
“They performed Facts of Life and One of Diff’rent Strokes, and then Norman Lear. “Holy hell,” he shouted, calling all of us. “I knew you guys were still popular.” The reaction from the broadcast [special],” she clarified.
Before Lear passed away at the age of 101 in December 2023, Mindy claimed that he had discussed a complete remake of their ’80s comedy with her and his previous costars Lisa Whelchel, Kim Fields, and Nancy McKeon.
“We all started to think about it a little bit, even though we had never really talked about it,” she recalled. “We had discussions and decided to employ a writer. During COVID, the four of us got together on a Zoom, and we met with Norman to discuss it.
But regrettably, Mindy said, some “drama” developed and they decided to table the proposal.
I’ll put it this way: it wasn’t me, Mindy said. “The rest of us were devastated when one of the girls tried to make a separate deal for a spinoff deal just for herself behind our backs.”
She declared, “I’ll be honest, she’s a greedy bitch.” “We do [talk] ish now, but that hurt.”
It appears that the revival that aficionados of the original series had hoped for is now off the table.
Regarding the revival, the Palm Royale actress declared, “It’s very dead.” Some people are unwilling to let go of it. We are no longer as united as we once were—for forty years, we were united by refraining from gossip, dirty tricks, and the all-for-one, one-for-all mentality. It is unfortunate that this kind of destroyed that.
Mindy did not identify the former costar to whom she was alluding. She did, however, inform everyone that the actress in question might be identified by looking through her Instagram.
“If you look at my Instagram, you can see [who I hang out with more], but it’s not me.” I won’t refute or affirm,” she said. “This is incredibly depressing. I suppose I’m still not that jaded since there are certain people who are so desperate for money or fame that they do things that I find offensive. It astounds me.
Since Mindy’s shocking interview, none of her other co-stars on Facts of Life have made any public statements.
She remarked, “It just kind of shocks me every time.” Are you going to do that for financial gain or fame? The thought that someone would do that—throw genuine, deep friendships under the bus for a dollar—always just kind of worries me out.
