M3GAN 2 Release Date is Officially Confirmed by Universal Pictures!

Since January is a slow time for movies, nobody really expected M3GAN, a horror movie about an AI companion doll that kills people, to do as well as it did.

But the slasher movie did better than anyone thought it would because of the power of social media memes and the doll’s new role as an icon for LGBTQ+ people. The movie only cost $12 million to make, but it made $30 million in its first weekend alone, making it one of the most exciting new movies of 2023.

Given that the thriller movie made a lot of money and had a lot of franchise potential, an M3GAN sequel seems inevitable in many ways. The good news is that director Gerard Johnston has already said, “How can I not be?” when asked by Variety if he would be interested in making a sequel. Even the ending of M3GAN leaves room for a sequel, so with all that in mind, we’re looking forward to when M3GAN 2 might come out.

M3GAN 2 Release Date

The release date for M3GAN 2 is January 17, 2025. This date was announced in January 2023, just a few weeks after the first movie came out. It looks like Jason Blum and James Wan will be betting that they will have another big hit in January.

M3GAN 2 Release Date

The success of the first movie made things look good. The New York Times said that a sequel was in the works, and insiders told Deadline that a sequel had been “fast-tracked.”

Even though work on M3GAN began in 2018, it only took eighteen months from the start of filming until the movie came out in theatres. For the sequel, Akela Cooper is back as the writer, so she’ll have to get typing fast. We don’t know who the director will be yet, so it might not be Gerard Johnstone.

Who Will Be in the Cast of M3GAN 2?

It’s hard to think of an M3GAN sequel without M3GAN, so Amie Donald and Jenna Davis would probably be back as M3GAN’s body and voice, respectively.

Beyond that, Allison Williams and Violet McGraw could play Gemma and Cady again, and Gemma’s coworkers Tess and Cole, played by Jen Van Epps and Brian Jordan Alvarez, could also be back.

Most of the rest were killed, so it’s not likely that we’ll see them again. Behind the scenes, we know that Akela Cooper will write the next book, and it’s possible that Wan will add to the story again. It’s still not clear if Gerard Johnstone will direct again or not.

What Will Happen in M3GAN 2?

The ending of M3GAN sets up a perfect second act. To sum up, M3GAN’s pleas to Cady to kill her emotionally repressed and often neglectful genius aunt Gemma fall on deaf ears, though for a split second, it looks like the BFFs are about to join forces. Instead, Cady keeps her sense of humanity and realises that M3GAN is not real, but Gemma is. Cady takes Gemma’s robot Bruce’s control gloves and rips M3GAN in half, while Gemma destroys M3GAN’s AI chip.

M3GAN 2 Release Date

It looks like a happy ending until Gemma’s smart home device, which is like Alexa, shines a scary light and faces the camera. So even though M3GAN’s scary body is gone, she is still alive and plotting her revenge somewhere in the cloud. As a result, the possibilities are almost endless, and M3GAN 2 could pursue a number of sci-fi plots if her cunning brain wasn’t completely unplugged.

Could M3GAN take on another body or more than one body? Could M3GAN hack into other Funko toys to help her take over the world? Could she, Smart House-style, scare another family in Gemma and Cady’s old house? Just wait and see.
