Reality television personality Shayne Jansen stated that the death of his loving mother, Karen Jansen, had left him “broken within.” The 33-year-old “Love Is Blind” actor announced the tragic news on Instagram on Thursday, writing that the two were “inseparable.”
“Today, I lost my best friend,” Shayne captioned a sequence of photos of the duo. We had been inseparable for the past year. Coffee each morning and ‘Schitt’s Creek’ each evening. I’m devastated on the inside, yet I have no regrets because we did everything together.”

After announcing her passing, he posted a screenshot of a text exchange with his mother to his Instagram Story. On Valentine’s Day, the resident of Wisconsin sent Karen Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One” and stated that it is “our song.” She asked him if he was home and thanked him for the song, but she repeated the inquiry because he had not yet responded.
“Do you see what I had to endure? Always affirming words,” Shayne humorously captioned the conversation with a red heart and smiling emoticons. “I’m attempting to chuckle, but I’m at a loss.”
Wayne Jansen, the father of the real estate broker, died abruptly in his sleep in March 2021, according to his obituary. Wayne was 68. At the time of his death, he had been wed to Karen for over 30 years.
Wayne and Karen are survived by their daughter Shayne, son Brent Jansen, and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Jansen (née Mock).
The former personal trainer’s reality television family supported him. Shake Chatterjee, co-star in Love Is Blind, remembers meeting Jansen’s mother. “We had the finest weekend in Wisconsin with her. She treated us all as if we were her sons. She will be sorely missed,” Chatterjee wrote on Instagram.
Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey expressed their sympathy as well. “So sorry brother,” wrote the singer. Vanessa further stated, “Sending you Love. I am very sorry.”
Although Shayne’s father passed away before the start of production for Love Is Blind, viewers of the Netflix reality show met Karen earlier this year, when Shayne became engaged to Natalie Lee. After an argument the night before their wedding, the couple ultimately canceled their nuptials and did not make it to the altar.
Even months later, she could not get over the massive brawl she had with Shayne, a source told exclusively at the time. In the end, they tried dating again, but it wasn’t meant to be, and that was for the best.
