Buzz Lightyear is a lot of things, but no longer a toy. You did read that correctly. Buzz is back in the new Pixar movie Lightyear. He is now played by Chris Evans and is a real-life version of Andy from Toy Story's favourite movie. Now that we have a new version of Buzz, we have, of course, started to think about when Lightyear 2 might come out.
Lightyear sees that poor Buzz stranded his crew on a dangerous alien world by accident. Buzz spends literally decades trying out different ships that can break the hyperspeed barrier so he can get his people home and finish the mission. The faster Buzz goes, the faster time goes by, and before he knows it, decades have gone by.
When the dangerous Zurg and his army of robots attack, Buzz doesn't have time to worry about that. We won't tell you what happens, but it goes without saying that our brave Space Ranger wins. So the question is always whether there will be a second part. Here's what we know about the release date of Lightyear 2.
Lightyear 2 Renewal Status
Pixar's decision to add to the Toy Story franchise by focusing on Buzz Lightyear is already a surprising gamble, but it's likely to pay off. Even so, the director of Lightyear, Angus MacLane, said he would be interested in seeing more of Buzz's adventures.
He also said that there are a lot of stories to be found in the fictional universe, but that his main focus right now is on Lightyear. Given how long and popular the Toy Story movies have been, it's not impossible that Buzz Lightyear will get his own sequel, but that will mostly depend on how well it does with audiences.
Lightyear 2 Release Date
Lightyear came out on June 17, 2022, so it would be too soon to say if there will be a Lightyear 2, but it is not ruled out either, so stay tuned. We will add new information to this section as it comes to us.
A sequel always depends on how well the first movie does, so if Lightyear does well with audiences, we can expect to hear about the second movie this year. Taking into account the time it took to make and release Lightyear, which was about 7 years,
Even if a sequel is announced this year, it probably won't be in theatres before 2025, because the COVID-19 outbreak affected the production of every project and caused the release of Lightyear to be pushed back.
Disney officially announced the movie in 2020, and then it took another two years to make. After looking into all of these things, it seems likely that Lightyear 2 will come out sometime in 2025.

Who Could Come Back for Lightyear 2?
If there is a second movie, most of the main characters from the first one will probably be back. Chris Evans is likely to play the main character again. Sox, Izzy, Mo, and Darby, who were also part of the Galactic Rangers, could also return. That means that Peter Sohn, Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi, and Dale Soules could all be heard again. Commander Burnside is still in charge of Buzz, so Isiah Whitlock Jr. might also come back.
What Will Happen in Lightyear 2?
At the end of “Lightyear,” Buzz is put in charge of the Galactic Ranger corps, which has been brought back to life, and his team is sent on their first mission. In a sequel, the space crew might go on more adventures and face and defeat another bad guy. Also, Lightyear's third scene after the credits teases the idea of a sequel. It ends on a cliffhanger that could be the main conflict of the next movie or the subject of a different movie set in the Toy Story universe.
