Welcome to a unique edition of the Netflix Top 10 report! After three years, Frederic is stepping down from publishing his English Top 10 reports (more details at the end), but we will continue to analyze the top 10s in depth. This week, we explore Too Much, the major Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano fight, Squid Game season 3, KPop Demon Hunters, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Destination Wedding, and more!

Note: This report covers Netflix’s hours viewed from July 7th to July 13th, 2025, using “Complete Viewings Equivalent” (CVE), expressed in millions. CVE divides total hours viewed by the runtime of films or series, allowing better comparisons between films and series. It is not an audience metric but represents the minimum number of complete viewings.

How does this week compare to previous weeks?

  • TV (English) – Ranked 107 out of 108 weeks (the second worst week since Netflix’s view records began in June 2023!)
  • TV (Non-English) – Ranked 7 out of 108 weeks
  • Movies (English) – Ranked 21 out of 108 weeks
  • Movies (Non-English) – Ranked 23 out of 108 weeks

1. KATIE TAYLOR VS. AMANDA SERRANO FIGHT

On Friday, Netflix streamed the highly anticipated rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano. The first-week numbers are in. While more accurate comparisons with the upcoming Canelo vs. Crawford fight will come later this year, the Mike Tyson fight remains a once-in-a-lifetime event that captured the zeitgeist like no other. How does the Taylor vs. Serrano fight measure up? It launched with 9.4 million watch hours, equating to 2.8 million views, compared to the 46.6 million views for the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight:

Netflix also released press statements for both events. Comparing the two based on Netflix’s data (noting different providers and methodologies), the Taylor vs. Serrano fight accounted for approximately 5.56% of the global viewership of the Paul vs. Tyson fight and 8.94% in the US.

Metric Taylor vs. Serrano 3 Event Paul vs. Tyson Event
Data Source VideoAmp (US) & Netflix (Global) TVision (US) & Netflix (Global)
Global Viewers (AMA) Nearly 6 million (Live+1) 74 million (Live)
US Viewers (AMA) 4.2 million (Live+1) 47 million (Live)
Concurrent Live Streams N/A 65 million (Global Peak) / 38 million (US Peak)
Netflix Performance #1 Ranking in 4 countries (US, IE, AU, NZ); Top 10 in 43 countries; First Week Views: 2.8 million #1 Ranking in 78 countries; Top 10 in 91 countries; First Week Views: 46.6 million
Social Media / Other Notable Metrics Main Event Trend #TaylorSerrano trended #3 globally #PaulTyson trended #1 worldwide
Gate / Attendance $2.63M gate from 19,721 attendees at MSG $18.12M with 72,300 attendees at AT&T Stadium

The Paul vs. Tyson fight remains in a league of its own, with an audience roughly four times larger than highly successful NFL Christmas games (~31 million viewers each). The NFL games, in turn, significantly outperformed the Taylor vs. Serrano 3 event, each attracting about five times more global viewers than the boxing main event’s nearly 6 million viewers. This establishes a clear viewership hierarchy: Paul vs. Tyson at the top, followed by NFL games as major streaming successes, and finally the more niche but historic Taylor vs. Serrano 3 event.

2. TOO MUCH IS A NO SHOW!

Too Much First Look Image

As noted earlier, this was a dreadful week for English-language series, with only the week of April 8 to April 14, 2024, recording fewer views in the top 10. Lena Dunham’s major new series, Too Much, was Netflix’s big release last week but failed to enter the top 10. This means it garnered fewer than 2 million views in its opening week, despite appearing in the weekly top 10s in eight countries.

What does this imply for the show’s future? Lena Dunham remains committed to Netflix through a new overall deal, and her new film Good Sex is currently in production. Beyond that, Too Much might still get renewed, as comedies have previously crossed a much lower threshold for renewal. Shows like The Vince Staples Show, Mo, and the recent renewal of Survival of the Thickest are good examples.

3. KPOP DEMON HUNTERS CONTINUES ON ITS REMARKABLE TRAJECTORY

KPop Demon Hunters is a phenomenal success story. It began as an average Netflix animated project but is now, in its third week, reaching extraordinary heights. Last week, we noted the film maintained one of the strongest holds of any film, and this week, it actually increased viewership by 6.61%, reaching 80.3 million views in week 4.

Tracking its week-over-week trajectory, KPop Demon Hunters is on pace to surpass Leo and become Netflix’s most-watched animated launch ever. Truly incredible.

4. TYLER PERRY DELIVERS HIT AFTER HIT FOR NETFLIX

Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Destination Wedding debuted at #2 on the movie list this week, reaffirming Perry’s ability to produce hits for Netflix. Impressively, this first-week debut outperformed the initial launch of A Madea Homecoming.

5. ANOTHER WEEK, ANOTHER TRAINWRECK DOCUMENTARY

Poopcruise remains the reigning champion, but a new alien-themed entry in the Trainwreck documentary series released this summer has now claimed second place, surpassing The Astroworld Tragedy and Mayor of Mayhem. Next week’s release: BalloonBoy.

6. OLYMPO – ONE MONTH IN

We previously predicted a comfortable renewal for Olympo, and with the full first-month stats now available, we are doubling down on that forecast. The series started off modestly but saw a massive 115% increase in viewing hours in week 2, followed by a steady decline. While it may not have the longevity of Elite, it has had a strong start during a busy period dominated by Squid Game.

7. BRICK

International Netflix Original films do not have a fixed release day like most English-language movies, often debuting on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. Brick, a new thriller starring Matthias Schweighöfer and Ruby O. Fee, was released on a Thursday. It debuted with 18.2 million views, which is solid compared to other Thursday releases in recent years. However, compared to other German films this year, it is less impressive. For example, Exterritorial had 38.3 million views (Wednesday release), Sixty Minutes had 10.6 million (Friday), and Delicious had 6.5 million (Friday).

8. WILL SQUID GAME SEASON 3 OUTPERFORM SEASON 2?

No.

HOW NETFLIX STACKS UP IN THE NIELSEN H1 2025 CHARTS, AND IS NETFLIX LOSING GROUND?

Earlier this month, Entertainment Strategy Guy highlighted that the streaming wars are intensifying, citing Nielsen data. A graph from the past four years shows Netflix losing share in the Originals category top 10s over time. In 2021, Netflix Originals held 80% of the top 10 slots, compared to an average of 52% in 2025.

This trend is clear, but there are some counterpoints: Netflix has reduced its volume of Originals, and Nielsen’s top 10s favor long-running Originals, whereas Netflix has focused more on limited series recently, which have fewer episodes and thus fewer viewing minutes. Additionally, other streamers tend to rely on one or two big hits per quarter, while Netflix consistently releases new content weekly. Despite these factors, the data confirms that other streamers are more competitive than ever in the US Nielsen top 10s.

Finally…

You may have noticed this Top 10 report is authored by me, Kasey, rather than Frederic, who has been our dedicated reporter for three years. Frederic will continue contributing occasionally, usually alongside his own website, but will no longer produce the weekly Top 10 report. I want to thank him for his dedication and look forward to collaborating with him on a smaller scale. You can still read his work on the Netflix n Chiffres website.

We expect to return with more viewership news soon, following Netflix’s second-quarter results release, which will include data from January to June 2025. You can find all previous engagement reports on our site.

That’s all for this week!
