Back in March 2021, Netflix closed a deal worth more than $400 million that promised not only a Knives Out 2 but also a Knives Out 3.

Knives Out 2 was, of course, a huge success. The detective movie quickly became one of the top ten Netflix movies of all time and was praised by critics. In his review of Knives Out 2, our editor Tom Percival gave the 2022 movie 5 stars and called the Glass Onion “compelling, funny, and whip-smart.”

When Will Knives Out 3 Be Released?

Knives Out 3 doesn’t have a release date. However, it’s likely that it won’t come out until at least 2024. A release date next year would be ambitious since the script hasn’t even been written yet and Glass Onion is finishing its limited theatrical run before it comes to Netflix.

In an interview with Comic Book, producer Ram Bergman said, “Well, that’s a good question. Johnson had the idea for the first one for a long time, but he didn’t write it down until late January. By the end of October, we were already filming it, which is very fast.

“He really didn’t know anything about this movie. He stopped thinking suddenly, and we were… From the time he started writing it seriously, we started filming about nine months or a year later.

“The good news is that he is very eager to get to the next one as soon as possible. We’ll see how fast he is, but this is going to be difficult. It’s going to be more difficult. So we’ll have to wait and see how long it takes.”

Who Will be in Knives Out 3?

If Johnson doesn’t go off the rails and bring back characters from the first two movies, you can expect the third movie to have another long list of colourful and famous suspects and possible murder victims.

Daniel Craig will be back as Benoit Blanc, and we hope that Hugh Grant, who plays Blanc’s partner Phillip and is briefly seen in a flashback scene at Blanc’s apartment, will have more to do than just a cameo.

Noah Segan will probably be in the third movie as well, but not as a character he’s played before. Segan has been in all of Johnson’s movies so far. In Knives Out, he played Trooper Wagner, and in Glass Onion, he played the slacker Derol.

Besides them, though, nothing is certain. Anyone could do it.

What Will Happen in Knives Out 3?

It’s still very early, so Knives Out 3 doesn’t have a plot yet. But Johnson’s interview with Insider shows that the movie will be set somewhere in the United States.

He said, “I want it to happen in America.” “It would be nice to go to places like Paris or the Alps, but I think it’s important that these are American movies. Even though Glass Onion is set overseas, it’s about a group of Americans who are stuck on an island together, so I think it would be good for the next one to be set closer to home.
