Peppers joined the NFL Draft in 2002 as one of the most coveted prospects. The Carolina Panthers drafted him second overall, behind quarterback David Carr. During one of his first games for the Panthers, he deflected a pass that eventually resulted in the game-winning touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens. In his second game, he recorded three sacks against the Detroit Lions.
