Johnny Depp Wins His Defamation Case, How Much Money Amber Pays Johnny Depp?

In their lawsuits against each other, Amber Heard and Johnny Depp were both lying about the other. The jury gave Depp much more money in damages, which was a win for the actor in court. Depp sued his ex-wife Heard for defamation after she wrote an opinion piece for The Washington Post in 2018 in which she called herself a “public figure representing domestic abuse.”

Even though Depp wasn’t named in the article, he says that it kept him from getting good acting jobs. Heard sued her ex-husband for defamation after Depp’s lawyer said things about her abuse claims that were not true. The jury decided that Heard’s article in The Washington Post made three false statements about Depp and that Depp’s attorney made one false statement about Heard.

The jury gave Depp $10 million in damages to make up for what he had lost and $5 million in punitive damages. The jury gave Heard $2 million in “compensatory damages,” but they didn’t give him any “punitive damages.”Heard wanted $100 million in damages, while Depp wanted $50 million.

In Virginia, punitive damages can’t be more than $350,000, so the Judge lowered the award. Joey Jackson says that the verdict is a “tremendous” win for Depp and a loss for Heard. Jackson said, “This is a huge victory.” “What he had to do was get around the First Amendment, which says that everyone has the right to say what they think and feel.

They (the jurors) said that you do have a right to free speech under the First Amendment, as long as you don’t say something false that hurts someone’s reputation and hurts their business.”

Heard’s spokesman, David Shane, said she plans to appeal the decision.

Everything Happened in a Flash

False, grave and criminal accusations were made against me in the media, which led to a constant stream of hateful content even though I was never charged. It had already gone around the world twice in less than a nanosecond, and it changed my life and career hugely.

The Jury Gave Me My Life Back Six Years Later. I Feel Very Low

I gave this case a lot of thought before deciding to pursue it, knowing how hard it would be in court and how much attention it would bring into my life. From the start, the goal of this case was to find out the truth, no matter what happened. I owed telling the truth to my children and everyone who has always stood by me.

I’m at peace now that I’ve finally finished it. I am and have been blown away by how much love and support people from all over the world have shown me. I hope that my efforts to get the truth out have helped other men and women in the same situation as me and that the people helping them don’t give up.

I also hope that the courts and the media will return to the idea that people are innocent until proven guilty. I want to thank the Judge, the jurors, the court staff, and the sheriffs for their hard work and for giving up their own time to get us to this point. I also want to thank my hardworking and steadfast legal team, who did a fantastic job of helping me tell the truth.

The best is yet to come, and a new chapter has finally begun.
