Sánchez showed off her pilot skills with her son and the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star in tow
The term “helicopter mom” is being redefined by Lauren Sánchez.
On Thursday, August 8, the 54-year-old journalist, who has received numerous accolades, shared an Instagram video in which she escorted her son Nikko Gonzalez, 23, and Orlando Bloom in a helicopter to participate in a tandem skydive.
The eldest child of Sánchez is shared with her former partner, Tony Gonzalez, an NFL tight end. Ex-husband Patrick Whitesell is also the father of her daughter, Ella, 16, and son, Evan, 17.
In the video, Sánchez operates the aircraft, while Gonzalez and Bloom, both 47, are situated behind her seat. Before departure, she smiles at the camera, and later, while in the air, she shares another portrait angle of her son crouching behind her.
Another recording of Gonzalez and Bloom conversing while preparing for the paragliding excursion was included by the mother of three. The final segment of her brief montage depicts the two males exchanging fist bumps prior to their ascent.
Sánchez also included music to accompany her post. She employed the most recent single from Katy Perry, Bloom’s companion, entitled “Lifetimes.”
“I guess you could call me a helicopter mom,” she cheekily captioned the post.
Several friends and followers commented on the trio’s fearless outing, including Gonzalez’s stepmother, October (Tobie) Gonzalez, who simply wrote, “Omg, lol.”
Kris Jenner added, “🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.”
Earlier this summer, Sánchez posted a video to Instagram documenting her flying a helicopter over the ocean. At the time she wrote in her caption: “‘The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity.’ – Amelia Earhart.”
“Every flight teaches me to embrace the journey and stay resilient. The sky isn’t the limit; it’s just the beginning. 🚁,” she added.
Sánchez was awarded a unique honor by the aviation community in January. She was awarded the Elling Halvorson Vertical Flight Hall of Fame Award at the 21st Annual Living Legends of Aviation Awards in recognition of her exceptional skills as an aviation businesswoman and helicopter pilot.
In order to obtain her helicopter pilot’s certificate, Sánchez enrolled in courses at a flight school in Los Angeles. Following this, in 2016, she became one of the first women to own and operate an aerial film and production company with Black Ops Aviation.
