Images from the season 1 finale of HBO’s The Last of Us show the voice actor who played Ellie’s voice for the first time. The voice of Ellie was done by Ashley Johnson in the award-winning PlayStation 3 game of the same name and in The Last of Us Part II, a popular PlayStation 4 game that came after it. Even though Bella Ramsey was cast as Ellie in the HBO show, Johnson joined the show at the end of season 1 to play Ellie’s mother.
HBO just put out new photos from the season 1 finale of The Last of Us, which show more of Johnson’s return to the franchise.
The picture shows Johnson as Anna, Ellie’s mother, as she walks through the woods alone and is about to give birth. The rest of the set shows Ellie and Joel on their last leg of the trip to the Fireflies.
When the first The Last of Us video game came out in 2013, Johnson’s performance as Ellie was immediately praised. In the end, she won two BAFTAs for the role. But Johnson was too old to play Ellie convincingly in the HBO version. Instead, she was cast as Ellie’s mother Anna, which was a good role for the actor who gave birth to the beloved character.
Early trailers for The Last of Us hinted at a flashback where Anna gives birth while under a lot of stress. In the season finale preview trailer, Anna is stuck against a wall with nowhere to go. She tries to get away from the infected who are attacking her. People thought that this scene shows how Ellie got her rare immunity to the Cordyceps fungal infection that is spreading around the world.
During the flashback coming up in the season 1 finale of The Last of Us, Anna may end up killing the creature during her tense meeting with the infected person. This may not happen until after she gets bit, though. This scary event could cause Anna to feel so much stress that she goes into labour and gives Ellie a mutated infection. It is yet unclear how Anna manages to get Ellie to safety, but it appears that she will be involved in the final leg of Joel and Ellie’s adventure in The Last of Us’ season 1 finale on HBO.
