Early Life and Career
Glen Gower was born in Canada in 1978, making him 44 years old. Gower grew up in the Tanglewood neighborhood of Nepean, Ontario, which is now a part of Ottawa. At Merivale High School, he helped establish the school newspaper.
Carleton University awarded him with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. During his time at Carleton, he created a website to monitor gas prices in Ottawa, which was ultimately acquired by GasBuddy. He would later launch the website OttawaStart.com.
In 2009, he moved to Stittsville. After settling into the neighborhood, he helped establish a community association. Before he was elected, he served as the director of marketing and communications for Iceberg Networks.
Glen Gower was also the organist for the Ottawa 67’s and Ottawa Senators hockey clubs, where he worked in marketing and communications. Until 2013, he was the director of the game presentation for the Senators.
Gower has been regarded as “moderate” ideologically, and he has remarked that he has “voted for every political party.” He admires former Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, whom he describes as a “social pioneer.” Diefenbaker was the subject of one of the websites he designed in his childhood.
In 2018, Gower was elected to the city council after pushing for “healthier development.” Glen Gower defeated Shad Qadri, a three-term incumbent, with 58% of the vote to Qadri’s 42%. Glen Gower was re-elected in 2022.
