It has been several weeks since Ginny & Georgia finally returned to our screens after a lengthy break caused by the 2023 Hollywood strikes. Fortunately, the wait for Season 4 won’t be as long, as it is currently in active development with filming planned for later this summer. Recently, showrunner Sarah Lampert shared some intriguing insights about the show’s progress and what fans can expect in Season 4.

In a recent interview with Popternative, Lampert discussed cliffhangers, character development, and how fan feedback is influencing the future of the Netflix hit. Here are some key points:

  • Season 4 is currently in the writers’ room, having started earlier this year, and is already halfway through development.
  • Lampert confirmed she knows the identity of Georgia’s baby’s father but is keeping it a secret.
  • The team plans to pause to incorporate fan reactions directly into the storyline.

Lampert reflected on the creative journey so far, noting that she has evolved alongside her characters. She described each season as bringing a unique emotional experience. Season 1 caught her by surprise with its sudden release and overwhelming attention. By Season 2, she felt more confident and grounded, embracing the experience fully. On the premiere night, she spent hours on Twitter watching fans react in real-time, calling it “one of the more fun nights” of her career.

Season 3, however, reached a new level of fan enthusiasm, with countdowns and high anticipation. Instead of feeling pressured, Lampert embraced the excitement. Her favorite part is when the show leaves her hands and becomes the audience’s to interpret. After years of focusing on minute details, she enjoys seeing the world’s response. “I protect it from each stage,” she said, “and then I get to just give it to the world.”

Discussing the conclusion of Season 3, which featured major developments such as Georgia’s pregnancy reveal and Ginny grappling with her mother’s past, Lampert emphasized these are not just dramatic twists but pivotal emotional shifts for the characters. She described them as “life-changing cliffhangers” that will shape the story ahead. “Ginny finding out her mom is a murderer changes that world for that character,” she explained. “Georgia getting arrested changes the world for that character. And then, you know, Georgia finding out she’s pregnant… that changes the world for the character.” (Note: Georgia’s arrest happened at the end of Season 2.)

Moving forward, Lampert updated on the writing process, stating, “I’m halfway through the writer’s room with the writers right now. I’m doing this, and I should be in the writer’s room right now.” Filming is expected to begin in Summer 2025 and wrap by February 2026, indicating rapid progress.

One of the biggest fan mysteries from Season 3’s finale is the identity of Georgia’s baby’s father. Lampert confirmed she knows but is not revealing it. She introduced her original choice to the writers’ room and encouraged them to explore alternatives. After considering different possibilities and their consequences, the team briefly shifted direction but ultimately returned to Lampert’s initial choice. “So it’s who I originally wanted it to be,” she said.

Looking ahead, Lampert did not disclose specific Season 4 storylines but expressed enthusiasm about the show’s direction. The writers’ room is energized, and she feels creatively inspired by her colleagues. While fans eagerly await answers, she is committed to allowing the story to unfold with care and emotional authenticity.

Another notable insight Lampert shared is how seriously the team takes fan feedback. They plan to pause story development to review online reactions to Season 3. “We’re going to take Monday to stop, not push story forward, and really talk about all of the commentary and the reactions to season three,” she said, noting that although Season 4 was outlined before the premiere, they have made room to reflect on fan discussions across Twitter, Reddit, and TikTok.

Lampert’s theater background taught her to embrace both praise and criticism. “I think it makes my work better,” she said. “It makes me think deeper about things.” Rather than avoiding public discourse, she welcomes it. “I love both the good and the bad. It forces me to reevaluate the choices that I made, and sometimes double down on them and sometimes change them.”
