Frank worked at Coast to Coast Hardware and Quad-City Automatic Sprinkler when he was a teenager because he wanted to save up for a $4,100 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Fritz met Mike Wolfe, who would later be a co-host on “American Pickers,” at Sudlow Intermediate School. They both went to Bettendorf High School and graduated in 1982.

Frank worked as a fire inspector for 25 years after he graduated from college. During that time, he started collecting things that had to do with firefighters and firehouses. After he bought something for $15 and sold it for $475, he thought he could make a living that way.
