If you have been following the news, you must have heard about the China-US Trade War. The unrest against China is the result of dirty, unethical tactics used by China against the competitors.

Not to forget that the US administration is taking strong actions against Chinese companies who are quite infamous for their IP theft, which means Intellectual Property Theft.

The IP Theft is a rampant practice among the Chinese manufacturers, which has allowed them to exploit the benefits and push the original makers out of the market.

Now, let’s talk about Chinese apps banned in India. Internet usage in India has grown exponentially since 2010.

Earlier, the internet was limited to corporations, cafes and wealthy classes of society. However, as technology progressed and smartphones have become common among the common folk.

The affordable internet packs have given easy access to high-speed internet to smartphone users. That’s where Chinese manufacturers saw an opportunity.

For the past few years, the Chinese smartphone makers have captured and expanded the customer base in the Indian market. If you look at the following chart, you’ll realize how deeper their market winning has gone.

It’s not just about investment into Indian startups. The original Chinese apps by Chinese tech companies have been booming into the Android and Apple app stores.

You can take TikTok, for instance. TikTok, previously Musical.ly, has exploded into the Indian market. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say at least one in ten Indian regularly uses the app or at least have installed it on the phone.

As of November 2019, TikTok was one of the most downloaded apps in India, with almost 190 million downloads.

However, as the disputes of China against many countries have increased. At the same time, concerns over privacy and safety of the users using Chinese phones and apps have been growing seriously.

Following the recent brawl against China on the Ladakh-Tibet border, the Indian government on Monday released a press note stating names of 59 Chinese apps banned in India, on both App Store and Play Store.

The ban includes major apps like TikTok, WeChat, Helo, UC Browser and ecom apps like Club Factory too. You can see the major applications enlisted in the ban declared by the Government of India.

With these apps removed from Indian Play Store and App Store, it would be necessary to find their alternatives

Conclusion

The government’s move that led to Chinese apps banned in India is a first bold move to topple the monopoly of China in the world of manufacturing and trade. It will be interesting to see how Chinese companies and governments respond to it.

Even though China has other customers, considering the number of users it has and money they pumped into Indian market, it will be foolish to think that Chinese will not retaliate in some way.
