During this time, the villagers are fighting their way through the vampires to the church, but they are ultimately defeated by the undead. Rebecca is pulled aside by her vampire father, who offers her his blood amid the chaos. Rebecca declines and attempts to establish an emotional connection with her father, who ultimately releases her. Charles finally reaches the church with a sacrifice from George as the battle continues.

Jakub sends Loa inside to battle her father, but she saves him from one of the vampires waiting to kill him. Loa supports her father in his efforts to defeat Jakub. However, Jakun is too strong. However, Charles triumphs over Jakub and slices off his head. However, Stephen continues to cause the worm eclipse.

Charles must now battle his cousin and get him to quit. Only Charles, George, Abel, Rebecca, and Loa remain after the conflict. They return to Chapelwaite, where Tane and Honor are awaiting their arrival. Their discomfort stems from the fact that their sister is now a vampire. Rebecca attempts to bring them together and provide comfort.

Charles now formulates a plan to protect his family from the vampires still searching for De Vermis Mysteriis. He becomes a vampire and requests that the local physician sew the book inside him. With the book sewed inside and his transformation into a vampire complete, Charles departs for the sea, leaving Rebecca and Abel behind with his family.
