You want to learn more about Candy before you start. Below, you can find out more about Candy’s release date, cast, and more.
What Is the Story of Candy on Hulu?
Candy is based on a real-life murder that took place in the 1980s. Texas housewife and good person Candy Montgomery killed her friend Betty Gore with an axe in her friend’s house on June 13, 1980. Gore was a good friend of Montgomery’s.
Montgomery is shown as a disillusioned housewife who has an affair with Allan Gore. She feels like she’s stuck in her life (portrayed in the series by Pablo Schreiber).
During his time in prison, Montgomery became a suspect in the death of Betty Gore because she was the last person to see her alive. He was arrested and charged with murder. Because Gore was stabbed an estimated 41 times, Montgomery was eventually found not guilty and let go.
As part of a five-episode series, the show will also show Montgomery’s trial as he tries to make sense of the murder.

How Many Episodes Will There Be for Candy?
Hulu will show just five episodes of the limited series from Monday, May 9, through Friday, May 13. They will all be on the same day. Michael Uppendahl, the show’s executive producer, told Showbiz Cheat Sheet why there were only five episodes. “We wanted to get it down to its most majestic form,” they said.
I thought it should really sing and have a lot of life in it. There were a lot of reasons why the amount of time we had to tell the story was cut down. There were some things about their lives that fueled the episode, such as the crime. But I didn’t want to stay and think about it.
One of the show’s co-creator and an executive producer said more: “Each episode has a unique tone. It’s all very different.” In a way, it’s like one day in the life. Here is the story, and here is the investigation. You can read about it here. We thought there were five parts to the story.

What Is the Plot of Candy?
To make Candy, a Hulu show about true crime, there was a lot of information to look through. They even hired Jim Atkinson and John Bloom, the journalists who wrote the book on Candy Montgomery’s story. They were consulting producers for the show, too. It’s mostly from their book.
I also had to read and look at a lot of information and documents from the real case. Esperanza says that to prepare for his job as Montgomery’s lawyer, he had “trial transcripts and photos of the crime scene, as well as interviews with people who were involved and in courtrooms. We also talked to people who were at the police station.”
