Candy Storyline Review
The worst flaw in any suspense thriller is when the audience predicts the ending in the first quarter. According to the track record, the curse may be seen in 7 out of 10 thrillers now being produced in India. Even the audience has gotten more intelligent and observant, which is something to keep in mind while creating a thriller.
You can either be Sriram Raghavan and create one of the most satisfyingly complex messes of a movie (Andhadhun) or you can be the producers of Candy, who stick to the formula while maintaining the mystery. Candy is an extremely complex perspective on the status of a town that is picturesque, but the secrets are deeper than the valleys we pass, based on a narrative by Agrim Joshi and Debojit Das Purkavastha, who are also responsible for script.
There is a school where bullies roam freely, and a Pablo Escobar-like drug peddler/son of the town’s most powerful guy (Nakul) is making and distributing drug-induced sweets to schoolchildren. The powerful guy, also known as Bhaiyaji (Manu), has a slew of unsolved prior atrocities. A cop who alternates between black and white but never allows her life to become grey. All of this, plus a lot more.
The characters developed are substantial, and we can hook our curiosity too, despite the lack of subtlety and mouthing OTT lines. It turns into one of those perfect equations in which the plus equals the minus. Ashish R Shukla, who is known for producing similar material, falls between a masala entertainer and a web show in the digital arena. There’s a little bit of both. This may lead to conflicting viewpoints, since not every palate enjoys a combination.
The peak of Candy is what fascinates me the most. We’ve been speculating who the ‘Masaand’ is since the seventh episode, and it’s finally time for us to learn the narrative. My intellect had foreseen the outcome as well. However, the way it was done and twisted made it interesting, so I overlooked the predictability.
Of course, there’s the predictability. At least 40% of the turns are ones you can see coming from a long way away. It detracts from the overall effect. For a spectator who watched the show for a long time, it becomes clear that the producers dilute the intermediate sections in order to hide the climactic twist. That means you’ll have to wait for the last game to start.
Moreover, Candy is deserving of your time. It’s a program where the suspense isn’t merely for the purpose of being suspenseful. Enter and revel in the sensations.
Candy Star Casting
Richa Chadha transforms into DSP Ratna Shankhawar, a woman who manages to strike the right balance between her career, her affair, and her family. It’s far more than the eye encounters. Her snarky and brash attitude make the first few episodes entertaining to watch. I’m hoping she carries herself with a little more swagger in the future.
Ronit Roy plays Professor Jayant Parekh, who is struggling with a sad past. He accepts the assignment to solve the mystery while dealing with a bereaved wife and his anxieties. As a parent, the actor brings his A-game and is instantly endearing.
Rishi Chadha, Gopal Datt, and Nakul Roshan Sahdev all perform great work (save for his hamming and excessive blinking).
