Below Deck Mediterranean Star Tries to Mend Their Tarnished Reputation After Being Accused of Intentionally Performing Poorly

Jonathan “Jono” Shillingford, a cast member of Below Deck Mediterranean, highlighted a charter guest who gave him a high five as he works to rebuild his reputation. Chef Jono has faced criticism for falling short of the high expectations of pricey yachts such as the Mustique during the current Bravo series Below Deck Med season 9.
Over time, Jono has faced accusations of stage-managing his subpar performance, and there are growing requests each week to fire the chef. Should Captain Sandy Yawn decide to fire Jono, she is prepared with a backup cook.
Chef Jonathan Shillingford of Below Deck Med wants to make the most of his culinary prowess in the face of criticism for his subpar performance.
Right now, Chef Jono is the antithesis of a Below Deck fan favorite. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t making an effort to provide the best possible image of himself. The star of Below Deck Med just shared an Instagram photo by Dustin Plunkett, a charter guest, praising him and Bosun Iain Maclean.
The visitor shared pictures of two of Chef Jono’s meals prepared during their charter with Iain and posed for a picture with him. Dustin posted a caption that read, “What’s going to happen? We adored our bosun @iain_twee_drie and our chef @shillingfordj #belowdeck #belowdeckmed #bravo. I dunno.” In an effort to convince detractors that the charter guests haven’t experienced any significant problems with his meals, Chef Jono then posted those meal images on his Instagram Story.
Is Chef Jonathan Shillingford Allowed to Remain Below Deck Med?
Nothing that Chef Jono does seems to have the ability to improve his reputation. The chef’s meals are constantly criticized in a plethora of Reddit threads, social media posts, and comment sections. Captain Sandy already has Jono on his list of people to fire if he doesn’t start making progress.
Nine episodes of Below Deck Med have almost reached their halfway point, and surprisingly, no one has been fired yet. Iain is among the many cast members who could be next on the firing list.
Why Captain Sandy has been so reluctant to really fire anyone during Below Deck Med season 9 is a mystery. She has pointed out locations where her high standards aren’t being met and is aware of significant problems on the Mustique.
For instance, Chef Jono has had numerous chances to get better, but it doesn’t seem like that will happen. Perhaps Jono can survive for the remainder of the season if he can please the charter passengers just enough with his dinners.
Bravo and the producers will have to determine whether to keep Chef Jono on for Below Deck Med season 10 if he is not sacked during the ninth season. His mannerisms are suited for television, and the bland food he prepares adds drama.
Perhaps they will rehire him for the upcoming season. But if that does occur, there will be even more criticism until a new chef is hired who can remedy Jono’s errors and go forward.
